  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Largest sensor on the globe by Canon

This is a large format sensor reading at 60fps, jeeze.

Anyone notice in the picture the sensor has a grid on it? Like they took a bunch of smaller sensors and combined them? ;)

almost 8" inches square - the Ansel Adams sensor.

Can't wait to get that camera in an underwater housing! :)

The take home is that this is proof-positive that RED can in-principle deliver on their larger Monstro sensors with the specs they've announced.

Bring 'em on!

what's the number of pixels? Strange ... doesn't say.

Lol. For all we know it could be same as 5d but with HUGE pixels

Which would be great if it's light sensitivity was insane. I can't even imagine pulling focus with that thing though. Gah.

i am confused what to buy Canon 5D or wait for scarlet

I'd wait for this 8x8 sensor - now that would be some shallow DOF! :)

Seriously, just buy a t2i or 60d and use it until scarlet comes out and then sell it if u need to. They have as good or better video features than the 5d and half to a third of the price.

What lens could you even use on that?

There are options:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/372241-REG/Schneider_04_1003433_550mm_f_11_Fine_Art.html (Should cover a 24''X24'' sensor, I believe.)

But they are very slow (they're not designed to be used wide open, rather stopped down 3-4 stops) and not very sharp. For digital photography, smaller sensors may be better overall performers and more light-sensitive in practice. Still, for astronomy, this could be cool.

The grid makes it look like it has a resolution of 10px by 10px... very hard to pull focus indeed ;)
