laptop suggestions?

I do a lot of traveling and am looking for a laptop in hopefully the sub $2,000 range.
What are some good options that will allow me to edit in premiere and color in divince without it constantly stuttering? Looking for something that will allow for smooth playback while editing 5k red raw in these applications at 1/2 or full res if possible. any suggestions? with so many laptop options and my lack of understanding of graphics units(some having more Gb graphics cards but some cards not working best with some apps while others work better). what does everyone recommend? would rather it not be a 8 pound tank either lol

Dell XPS 15” have an nvidia 1050 graphics card that will really help with editing speed in PP. but don’t think a sub $2000 laptop will allow you edit and color 5k raw with no stuttering. Can play 5k 1/2 res with XPS but editing is much more taxing.

Your best bet for any laptop is to edit with proxies and switch to the red raw file at the end. You can shoot a small 1080 prores file along side your 5k red raw file if you have scarlet-w. Use that 1080 prores to edit with. Or else make proxies within premiere and edit with those. Search for premiere pro proxy toggle switch to figure out how to best edit with proxies in PP and switch to the raw file when needed.

Haven’t opened Devinci on my XPS but I don’t foresee it working like a dream, lots of colorists need a high end desktop computer and even then Danvinci is not easy to run smooth.

That all being said the XPS is great for that price range. Don’t know anything else that will compare. Maybe someone here will provide some new insight would be cool

It might be a bit more expensive, but I would check out Puget Systems out of Washington state. They can custom design whatever you need. My son and I both have gaming PC's and laptops we bought from them which have lasted years with no problems.
