I have always disliked and still very much do, super wides, and can not stand most gopro videos because of it.

I made extensive use of the Arri 8mm in NDA work and also used on the filming of the Burj khalifa building in the SkydibeDubai 2012 video.

I also worked with a series of 12mm offerings, including Master Primes, and I just never liked the end results.

I do not like the post work done to get distortions out, it just not the same image anymore, different framing different feeling and so on.

So I simply stay away from Super Wide lenses.


Now, this little 12mm seems to trow away my dislikes of Super Wides and might just bring me back to shoot some interesting stuff... Will see.

Round 2 of the Comparison of Arri Ultra Prime 12mm T/2.0 ($32,430) vs Laowa 12mm T/2.9 Zero-D ($1,499) on Red Epic-W 8k. One thing to note, Arri 12mm is a S35 lens and Laowa 12mm is a Full Frame lens.
