Hey, everybody, just a quick thought as I was watching some anamorphic lens tests, has anybody tried using the Laowa 1.33x rear anamorphic attachment with something like the Ironglass Adapters lenses?

I have a set of slightly dirty old school ones from before they had the full rehousing but even then, they have PL mounts and they have the faux anamorphic mods, could we be missing out on a sleeper S35-only anamorphic setup?

I have tried a lens sandwich with the Laowa 1:33 rear anamorphic adaptor on rear, a Nikon AIS 50mm lens and a 16:9 adaptor on the front for a near-to 2x cinemascope effect. The Laowa adpator barrel had been remade to accept Nikon F-Mount lenses on the front which is "just" doable. It works and you get some signature flares. Any wide field-of-view from the front adaptor is cancelled by the narrower field-of-view conferred by the rear anamorphic. You need to accept a slightly distressed look. Anything of course is worth a try so long as the trier can afford to eat the cost.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing with my posts about the Letus 1.8x Pro anamorphic adapter not turning up much either. These anamorphic solutions have been available for a while so I'm blown away that nobody has tried them out, especially on this site where everybody's always testing and trying something with lens options. Well, if I get one at some point, I'll definitely make a video on it with my results.

My friend has one and briefly loaned it to me, so I put it on my Dulens APO Mini Primes with the Raptor. Looked pretty darn cool. Close focus isn't great, but that's to be expected. I did use a 15mm PL macro extension tube with it, to get some real close ups. That combo worked like a charm.

I liked shooting 8K 17:9, then desqueezing in-monitor by 1.25x. Gets you around a 2.35:1 aspect with the same height as 8K 17:9 and a touch more horizontal room than spherical. Doesn't feel entirely anamorphic, but it could be a neat trick to get more FOV out of a lens, or to "fit" an 8K 17:9 FOV into a 2.35:1 aspect ratio so to speak.

Ha! My mistake, for some reason I read your post a little too quickly and thought you were discussing that Sirui *front* anamorphic adapter.

should probably stop scrolling while half-asleep before bed :)
