  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Laing Custom Steadicam Group Buy

Thanks.

Sorry for delays, but all of them had been related to boxes manufacturing. It is not so easy to find supply of some connectors.

Do the battery plates support RED's charge data? If so... which of the two batteries get's transmitted? Do the two batteries get discharged at the same time, or is there an automatic switch as soon as one is nearly empty?

The 6pin LEMOs aren't the ones RED uses, which doesn't matter, as long as LAING provides adapter cables.

Yes, it is whole point of having such connectors. By default one battery plate comes with 6 pin cable.

Proper cables are supplied, I added photo of such cable.

Yes that cable will work. But again my question: which battery data will be transmitted? Or is there a switch to alter between the two batteries?

One battery plate has one cable, so it can transmit only data from connected battery. Two batteries are connected to different battery plates.
So manual switching is possible only by pluggin cable from other battery plate.

So one cable always just hangs around? Would be nice to add a second input to the d-box with a switch (or any other solution), so that both batteries can be used without replugging the cables... otherwise the second battery is not really useful. Perfect would be an automated switch, as soon one battery reaches a set limit (~13V).

Anyway I'm looking forward to see the test results!

Awesome stuff, thanks Vitaliy. I'd like to see pricing and delivery info before committing fully, however.

By default one battery plate comes with 6 pin cable. If you want two such plates, you can get them.

Second battery is perfectly useful to power monitor and any other gear you have.

Nice

Looking good, I will get one, maybe two.

Personally, I think one battery plate for the camera and the other battery for monitor and other accessories is enough for me. Adding adding switches and more wires just complicates matters and adds to things that can fail on the rig.

Sorry to clutter this thread, but its been so many steadicam threads. Did the came steadicam ever finished as a groupbuy?

CAME is not steadicam brand, just dealer branding of previous models of Laing.

As for finished part, check first post in this thread.

Who is going to test it ? When ? and so on ... waiting for details ...

Very glad to see a 6-pin lemo solution for smart power was implemented. A few questions:

I can't seem to find the HDMI port on the bottom box. Where is it (i.e., which photo numbers)?

How much of what we see in the photos will be part of the standard package for this special RED edition stabilizer and how much will be options (e.g., the lemo cables, boxes top and bottom, battery plate with lemo, etc.)

How many sizes will the vest come in, and will there be a published range of chest and waist sizes that a particular vest size will optimally fit? As a female weighing 126 pounds, this is especially important to me.

Do we need to enter contact information at the bottom of the wiki page in order to officially "enter" the group by and/or receive the pricing information whenever it's compiled?

It does not have HDMI port on bottom box. HDMI cable comes from the bottom. You can see it going to monitor on one of the sled photos.

Cheapest set will be one without boxes and with battery plate that comes with long 6 pin lemo cable (so it goes via pole and directly to the camera).

All else will be options you could add, I'll make explicit list slightly later.

Thanks for noting it, I'll add this info early next week.

It is best to just enter your contacts at wiki page. Makes it simple to contact you.

Let me know cables you want to see. I mean here mostly D-Tap to something (right now D-Tap to XLR for monitor is planned) and 2pin LEMO to smth cables. Also BNC cables for HD-SDI.
