  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

What is this?

Does anyone know what these data ports are, or are they power?

I can only hope that someone is tapping some sort of RAW data stream off the mark2 chips...

This particular device has nothing to do with recording codecs or RAW. That cage is for something very fucking cool, though... that's all I can say. I'm extremely excited to use it myself. Stay tuned to Laforet's blog.

Awwww...

But now I am very curious to find out what could the "very fucking cool".

:bigear:

Where are those Chinese geniuses who weren't afraid to hack into their Mark2's and blast out a RAW signal from the chips?

Keep in mind that there are no any help even that sort of..., no Chinese hackers, Russians scientists, British explorer, German mechanics, French cook, Italian Renaissance painter,

Indian Guru, Amazon jungle healer or someone else to deal with the sensor heating issue that's actually delayed Scarlet (also Epic) release for more than a year...

Serious SJ? Heating issues? There is no way that we are waiting on RED to figure out how to cool a sensor.

Yes, this is one of the biggest challenges in a high-end digital cinema design...

But "Slappy" is the living proof that the sensor works...!!!? Jim told more about an ASIC problem than a heating problem.

Pat

BTW happy Christmas Sanjin!

Keep in mind that "Slappy" has been shot on RED 1 upgraded to M-X.

As we know R1 has cooling system in one compact body, but Epic is a modular system that it has a several parts, it's like a sort of assembled digital Lego elements

and it's a bit different situation than with a compact body design.

You have Epic design with a brain box that consists mainly of the sensor, but sensor heats and you have to find out to design a totally new system for cooling for a small box.

Also other parts you want to add shouldn't be effected with that brain box temperature and then you get another type of issue with a system that has many parts.

There every part has its own temperature that could effect each other in many ways, it's about the whole modular body that consists of many different parts with a different temperature...

It's possible that you get a sort condensation between the elements that could be (obviously) very often...

At the end there are a lot of challenges for a digital cinema camera modular designer...

Don't forget that this modular system should be certified to work in many different climate conditions or let's say minimum from 0 (zero) Celsius degrees (or lower) to +40 or more...
