You shouldn't be surprised... especially if you've done any kind of filmwork. People like to forget where they got their starts - with the menial underpaid jobs that come in the no-lo budget fare that they wish they never did. But, without it, they'd never have gotten where they are. These are the types of projects that challenge. Sometimes they're fun, but usually people take them to get their starts.
Everyone complains about them because they THINK they're not getting what they BELIEVE they are worth. I know. I'm guilty of it too. I'll be lugging gear in the hundred degree summers, wondering what in the world possessed me to say "yes" to the gig - No matter that I'm getting more that the standard rate (even if it's only a few bucks per hour more).
Get used to it. It's going to happen. People bitch.
Especially when the money's tight.
What you say is correct, but that isn't even the bulk of the criticism. Most of the posts are about real names or saying others won't take the job when many already have. Why I am surprised and find this interesting is that why would someone take the time to post about how someone else won't do a job based on how they personally see an offer. Simply ignore the offer and move on. The name thing is even more baffling because it was resolved within two posts by myself and a moderator. As such I have a thread filled with all this vitriol but almost no discussion on the actual point of the thread. To finish a film project.
I already sorted this out so I am going to be closing this offer down anyway. However I have found it a very unusual reaction from posters. Again thanks to all those the PM'ed. It was a great response and it helped me make a decision.
