Anyone tried a Krasnogorsk lens (using pentax screw adapter for nikon mount) on a red?

I used to have a Krasnogorsk is the 90s.. i remember the lens was pretty good. Very fast lens.. i think F1.9 or something 17mm which zoomed down to 69mm... interesting and cheap lens.

I heard from a reliable source that, because they were so hungry for dollars when the wall came down, the initial price they paid for the K-3s was $6.

I made the better part of 4 action sports films with that lens on the K-3.

I really liked it. The action on the zoom was nice with the lever.

Being that the K-3 is 16mm, the lens may only cover 2k, though.

P+S Technik might make an adapter for it, and they are making the IMS for the Red. I haven't checked to see if they offer the screw mount. If they don't offer it, and enough people asked, I'm sure they would make it.

when the wall came down it was the Krasnogorsk 1. Different camera. think i had the 2 or 3 in 1997.. But it was quite cheap. something like 500 euros brand new, had it converted to super16. Filmed all across europe with it only to find a film flare on the super16 side of the film. what a nightmare. Tried to sew them, but as we all know small claims doesnt work out, lol

Also, I have no idea how sharp the lens is. I was shooting with it back in the day when all my 16mm footage was going to standard def DVD and sharpness was not as critical.

I'd love to see how the lens would resolve, and how it would do on a projector.

it surprises me to be honest some people think 16mm is inferior to hd!! amazing. 16mm was the high definition of the 60's-90's!! Just try 50ASA Super16 for size. RED is the first to pass Super16 quality and even match or better 35mm in my view.

Cinemano, I was commenting on the quality of the Krasnogorsk lens, and the quality of standard def DVD, not 16mm.

I shot about 100,000 feet of 50ASA on everything from the K-3 to an SRII.

Great stock. I'm not knocking it. I'm just saying that the Krasongorsk lens may be optically matched for standard def DVD, and not matched for 2k in terms of sharpness and resolving power.

I don't have my K-3 lens anymore or I would test it.

If anyone has one, and has the resources to do a proper test, I would love to know the results. Using it in 2k mode would be awesome.

Sorry Thor.. i misread what you meant :) Hope no offense taken.. :)

No worries, Cinemano. None taken.

The fact you're curious about a Krasnogorsk lens on a Red means you're a man after my own heart... thinking unconventionally! I like that!

One lens I used to have for my K-3 that I plan to pick up for my Red is the Peleng 8mm. It's available in a PL mount for under $1000.

THAT would be a great lens for the Red... well, for certain applications, anyway!

Peleng 8mm? cool.. PL mount sounds ideal. I tried Zeiss Nikon lenses. Hehe i like unconventional too.. im even gonna try using this: http://www.berezin.com/3d/3d_lens.htm with my nikon mount to do 3D tests. Gonna figure out how to export them into one 3d video file for polarised glasses lol

K3 was fun.. no charging at all. I remember taking it with lots of 100 foot rolls to a Eurtrain journey shooting scenes for my last short in 97. Had a deal with my girlfriend at the time: 1 day for tourism 1 day for shooting.. hehe.. When thesis films came out people were in awe at the European locations on the short. I couldnt afford Super16 to 35mm blow up so i had to go to Washington state to do a blowdown to 16 with letterboxed.. lol ..

PLanning a cross-Russia journey shoot with my wife soon from Moscow to Khabarovsk with my RED.. hope i can charge my RED bricks on the train.

cinemano,

Sounds like an amazing journey. So, you are from Russia?

nah.. im half french half portuguese, born in switzerland, lived in 7 countries.. but i married a russian and we had a dozen other nationalities in the wedding :D She wants me to see her hometown, but for some weird reason i grew uncomortable in planes, so i avoid them now. So i figured.. hey if im gona cross russia by train, i better make a damn good film on the way :)
Being exposed to various cultures and countries, you can bet im excited about Obama.. Finally a guy who noticed other countries can be our friends!!!
