Hey!

I just got my Epic-W and loving the upgrades to it. The low light capabilities are a huge upgrade! I'm looking at some projects with Kowa anamorphics and were wondering if they fully cover both Epic-W and VV sensors?

Ive been searching for a bunch of information but haven't found what i needed yet!

Thank you for any help!

Anamorphic lenses (including the Kowas) were made to cover 4-perf 35mm (with a height of 18.6mm). On the Epic-W (with a height of 15.77mm), you are in fact using less than what the lenses were designed to cover (meaning you will have a narrower field of view than on a proper 4:3 sensor). On the Dragon VV (with a height of 21.6mm), you will be offered a 2x anamorphic mode which allow the use of the entire "4-perf" sensor area, effectively utilizing the entire image circle offered by any 2x anamorphic option designed for 35mm.

Kowas look awesome on dragon

i loved using them on my dragon! got a lot of great images from them so i was worried about the sensor upgrades but glad they all still work!

Senson comparisons for 2X anamorphic coverage

Hi, this is a chart I prepared to see the difference in the anamorphic sensor sizes of the two main cameras that are used to shoot feature films in India in comparison to 35mm cinemascope.

Thanks for doing this - super helpful!

Can you also add VV Ana sensor on that list please?

Hi, the 8K VV ANA sensor size is the same as the 8K VV sensor in the height, the only difference being in the width of the sensor size.

The 8K VV sensor size is 40.96 mm x 21.60 mm (Diagonal: 46.31 mm), the 6:5 sensor area used for 2x anamorphic is 25.92 mm x 21.60 mm (Diagonal: 33.74 mm)
The 8K VV ANA sensor size is 33.60 mm x 21.60 mm (Diagonal: 39.94 mm), the 6:5 sensor area used for 2x anamorphic is 25.92 mm x 21.60 mm (Diagonal: 33.74 mm)
