I've searched, and several posts insist this works well, but I've had a hard time combining K3 and RR in the same CPU. I'm now trying a late 2008 3.2 gig dual-quad (not Nahalem.) Kona in slot 2, RR in slot 3. RR complains the slot's not fast enough, but I get OK results. The bigger problem is that the Kona 3 stalls playing even something as simple as ProRez.

Is there something obvious I'm missing? Anyone working with this configuration successfully? The Atto fibre card in slot 4 is hitting 280 consistently, and the 2-disc raid internal is hitting 180 consistently, so I don't think the problem is the storage- not to mention, if I pull the RR, the kona plays perfect.

I used the RR drive from red.com/support. Is there a newer one somewhere?

Suggestions?

According to Aja, the Kona 3 will work fine in slot 3.

I am in the process of switching my Kona 3 around as well...

Kona 3 works fine in the third slot with the Rocket in slot 2.

The system ramps up the fans and it runs HOT! Just a warning. But it all works fine, at least for me. System is a 2009 8-Core Mac Pro 2.93GHz Nehalem w/16GB RAM. Slot 1 is a GTX-285, Slot-2 is the Rocket, Slot-3 Kona3, Slot-4 was an ATTO H680, but is now an R680.

I am using the RR and Kona without problems. Call Red tech support. They can help.

And what's your config? Kona 3 in slot 2 or 3?
I'll try the Kona 3 in slot 3, but I'm betting I'll have the same problem. Will report back in 30 minutes or so...

Swapped the Nvidia card for an ATI 4870. Presto. No stalls.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with those pesky BNC connectors that were using the empty slot now taken up by the ATI board.

Greg,

If one of your DVD-ROM bays is open on the front of the tower, you can run it through there. That's what we've been doing. It's not the most elegant solution, but it is a solution and it works well without moding your tower and voiding the warranty.

Hi Guys,

I am an absolute noob to RedRocket, and I am hoping someone can shed me some light about monitoring through RR.

Question 1.
As far as I understand, from forum to forum, RR can only be utilized by RocketCine-X or RedCine-X. ie. It is NOT used as an output video card like Kona3 or Kona LHi using FCP or Avid. Is this right?

I have noticed that a lot of RED veterans here at the forum has BOTH Kona3 and RR installed, I assume the reason for doing this is because RR can not be utilised in FCP?

Question 2.
Does Kona3 hardware-accelerates R3D playback in FCP or RC-X/RR-X?

Question 3.
Am I going to run into problem having the following config? (Too jammed up?)

Slot 1 - ATI Radeon HD 4870
Slot 2 - Rocket
Slot 3 - Kona3
Slot 4 - Fibre Channel

This is the specs of our mac, it's only couple of weeks old.

OSX- 10.6.3
CPU- 2 x 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory- 12GB DDR3

PCI-e Slots -
Slot 1 - ATI Radeon HD 4870
Slot 2 - Empty
Slot 3 - Empty
Slot 4 - Fibre Channel
