Is the Komodo-X Z-mount autofocus better than the Komodo-X RF-mount version?

With the new Komodo-X Z-mount, has anybody had the opportunity to compare the autofocus of: (a) Nikon Z 24-70 f2.8 S lens, vs (b) Sony FE 28-70 f2.0 GM lens using the Megadap ETZ21 Pro Sony E-Mount Lens to Nikon Z-Mount Autofocus Adapter?

Well, I took the jump and purchased a Komodo-X Z mount, a Megadap ETZ21 Pro E-mount to Z-mount, and a Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM.
The autofocus works quite well, but I don't know how it compares to RF or to Z.

To help others I want to share my experiences as well.

I also jumped to the Komodo-X Z-Mount (fw 2.03). Coming from Sony I've took the ETZ21Pro (fw 1.37) as well. My overall experience it a bit mixed.

My Sony lenses work fine on the first sight without deeper investigation.

Unfortunately with the Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 I have issues in case of infinite focus hunting (face, object) in continuous mode and not to focus an object in single mode. Further on the communication camera-adapter-lens does not update accordingly the focus-distance values what will show you eg. 12m next to 1.5m. In short: AF is not really reliable. Sometime it seems to work, next not. I don't know if this is caused by the adapter or lens.

Haven't noticed these issues with Sony cameras eg. A7iv.

Looking at megadap's firmware change-log I've found they have done several lens specific improvements.

Since Megadap has changed the firmware upgrade procedure from USB to in-camera I've tried to update the adapter's firmware within the KXZ. This was not possible. When navigating to the adapter's firmware version it shows me the right version but was not able to go ahead like described by megadap.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

It would be nice to know if the upcoming Tamron 28-75 with Z-mount will have similar issues or if it works flawless?

Thank you RED for addressing compatibility with the FW 2.08 for Komodo-X to help using cheaper glass for more budget oriented shooting.

I've noticed a huge improvement using the E-Mount version of the Tamron 28-70mm 2.8 VXD III G2 in combination with the Megadap ETZ21pro adapter.

Compared to the native Z-Mount version of the lens the native Z-mount one is mutch faster and shows better autofocus AF reliability for objects and face-detection. Only the responsiveness of the focus control ring (non linear / linear) is not read accordingly and cannot be changed from the camera's menu.

A short test using native Nikon Nikkor S glass (e.g. 135mm Plena) showed even better responsiveness and where significantly sharper.

I don't understand how you all are using the Megadap on a Z-mount Red. The lock release button on the Megadap physically interferes with the body's Z-mount locking mechanism. Are you just brute forcing past it? I tried that and it cut a nice groove in my Z mount.

On the KX-Z the megadap ETZ21Pro (MK 1) fits perfect. No force / changes necessary. Which one are you using? Pro? MK2?
