  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO - NEW RED CAM!

This absolutely won't be under $5k, and I'm sure it'll still come under the cost of the Dragon-X 5K brain, but not by much. Plus, Jarred said that since we "made the choice" of lower-priced mini-mags, that cost/difference in pricing needs to be passed on to the upcoming modules and camera.

Btw, since it's Komodo, I'm guessing it's a smaller cut of the Dragon sensor (because komodo dragon...)

I`d like it to be 4K but reality is it could easily be higher as you say because RED will be wary about canabalizing DSMC sales.

Also, from that CFast image, it looks like the heatsink blows back into our faces, unless I'm mistaken? I mean, it wouldn't make sense to have the CFast indicator light on the side, right?

Yeah, and while things like the Raven and Scarlet-W were pretty low in cost for the brain, the total package price was a lot higher once you added things on to make the camera functional. It could be argued that Komodo could be like a $12k pocket camera with no need for modules, therefore we're "saving" money. But, I don't think the cost would be that crazy high.

Ahh! I understand. Guess we just see it a bit differently, but who knows what’s correct.
I don’t think the Komodo is a Hydrogen module, but a stand alone camera that the Hydrogen phones can connect to. That’s why I thought the “nope” meant that the picture (with CFast) is not a Hydrogen module, but possibility the Komodo.

- or maybe I’m just confused in the sun and we are saying the same thing. Then I apologize :)

i take it as the insta tease was nothing to do with hydrogen, not a module, not komodo. something differernt. either a dsmc2 module or a stand alone pocket camera.
i also have to say the pocket camera, if there is one, better be as cheap as the blackmagic pocket or an A7 or do more, or else it wont eat into any market area.

The original H1 module was said to have a 5K+ Helium sensor and shoot in R3D lite. My hope is that they’ll be able to not cannibalizes the other cameras and still keep the price fairly low because of the “lite” version of R3D.
Maybe it has an amount of compression and lack of flexibility that is not something you’d prefer to use on larger productions and thus be better fitted for social media and home videos..? I don’t know...

A "Komodo" cam
Sensor module for H1 would be amazing & much appreciated. My H1 has been a bit of a waste of money TBH and been in a cardboard box since I tested it on a trip to Copenhagen when on a boat trip I soon realise the stereo camera would produce inverted Stereo images (pseudo stereo) once the boat was moving.

An awesome 2d redcode r3d cam module (even super compressed) would breathe A LOT of life back to the device though IMHO though after spending £1200 (you don't want to know how much we paid in VAT & customs & excise duties here in the UK for a device I used for about 4 days total & been gathering dust ever since !).

C'mon red, give the opportunity to turn this thing into a monitor for damc2 cams as originally promised at least!???

Ps check out BBC Earth Doc opening scene - if you think these dragons are small!

Hopefully the sensor is a bit bigger too.

Would be great to hear about the time frame on this project. Is it a year away? Who knows? I only know my hydrogene want some Komodo love from its very origion. Im eager to hear more updates on the Komodo!

Also think the name is a dead giveaway that it's going to be a Dragon Sensor. I'm thinking this is going to take the place of the Raven. It will be lower spec than Dragon X, at least frame rates wise or compression.
Fun to speculate at these times and might be totally wrong!

Or not ;)
