  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo firmware roadmap

One thing I absolutely love on the BMPCC6K is the ability to store profiles and choose them as needed for different groups of settings with one press of a button. My use case was saving different LUTs with frame rate both in 24p and utilizing the HFR button (high frame rate).

Todd, this is already in the camera now actually! As for assigning it to a button, you will probably be able to do that in the app or possibly on one of the small HD monitors (Although I don't have one of those so I can't verify).

I was under the impression it lacked this feature. Perhaps it was an older firmware. In any case, I’m glad this is a feature already!

Yeah if you go into the menu under "Presets" you can create a preset with any or all of the settings in camera. I'm nearly 100% positive you can make a button in the app to turn a preset on. If not, that functionality will come. But yeah! Check it out!

better autofocus are coming.

I'm still wondering what is coming for autofocus. It works well at the moment, but it lacks face- and eye-tracking. I cannot see how it's gonna be used without this feature and it's the only real improvement that actually really matters for autofocus.
But we haven't gotten any word or confirmation that any face/eye-tracking is in the works, is in any test phase or will even be able to exist on the camera.

If it's impossible to implement such tracking within the camera, maybe they should add such a feature to the Control App so that the app is tracking faces in the frame, essentially auto-tracking the box that we at the moment can only move with our fingers.

Just hoped that Red could be a little more transparent with what's going on. Maybe they learned not to talk too much about future stuff because of all the times they promised or presented something that then never happened.

What about choosing intermediate frame rates? More flavours of Prores?

More framerates should be a given, it's a basic necessity. More flavors of ProRes I'm not sure about, 422HQ is still very compressed as it is and I don't think 4444 is possible with the hardware.
I don't think it's even necessary to have 4444 when we have R3D which is far superior, 422 and 422HQ should only be used for longer recording times.

There's been a lot of silence from both Jarred and Red the last couple of months, not sure why, maybe changes of policies or something, maybe they've locked the communication into a small group of people. All of which is fine, but hopefully they don't forget the little people. Lots of questions floating around in here.

When will anamorphic shooting (1.8x, 2x, etc.) be expected to be implemented as a feature in camera? I hope this feature it is still coming and not a feature that will not make the cut... Or am I somehow missing this or is everyone just applying de-squeeze in post that has been shooting on anamorphic so far? I have yet to update my ST to 1.3.1 so not on the latest FW at the moment. With black production models shipping I am a little concerned that a lot of the features originally promised we may never see. Full RF integration with AF, Anamorphic modes, time-lapse, variable frame rate selection, etc. were and still are really important to me.
