  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey guys, so Im currently shooting a bunch of live clips at events to deliver the next day for social media. Was running a setup with a zoom recorder externally to record better sound, ended up recording 5 hours of video, 5 hours of audio, then layering in post, chopping up the relevant bits. Was great because I had to sift through loads of footage, and media chewed up etc.

Of course TC is an option but it's just 300-400 for TC1s or Sync's which isn't ideal, and just involves having a zoom recorder (which ive now sold) and TC money spent, then finding all the timecode in post with the clips still takes a while and these jobs are short deliverable timeframe (next day)

Ideally I would want to just record it in camera, currently am using a rode video mic pro which I can't get to be good enough quality as the venues are mega loud.

Is there any good options for microphone options or any external pre amp plug in setup I could use to better the quality of the sound so I can record it all in camera?

Thanks ahead for any help
Lewis

a 32-bit recorder such as the Tascam X8 or the Zoom F3 will be your best bet. 32-bit is hard to peak. You can run it into your camera if you like

Thanks for your reply - wiring wise so im clear would I run the line out of the recorder, into the mic port on the Komodo for example?

Press record on the zoom and I assume when I record on the Komodo it will pick up the signal?

Is there a good solution to being able to record in camera with better quality audio?

If I can avoid a load of post audio clip business that would be ideal as the time constraint for these jobs are pretty slim.

Yes on my v-raptor, I run my tascam x8 into the xlr on my camera.
so the tascam is essentially acting as a shotgun mic.
Set both for time of day, then roll your tascam at the beginning of the day and just let it record to itself so that you can have if you need it in post.
but the camera will be recording the audio from the recorder internally as well.
