  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Komodo AF

If you're concerned about performance, I have almost zero complaints! The only time I had any issue was not having it jump around at infinity focus on a 16-35mm Canon EF. Otherwise, it's been rock solid and performed wel.

AF has worked MUCH better in the new Beta software for me...so getting timelapse was cool, but getting better AF is GREAT :)

Which lenses have you had good success with autofocus? I only have the 24-70 f/2.8 II and have had pretty good results with it. Thanks.

I've had great success with the following lenses:
  • 18-35 Sigma 1.8
  • 35mm Canon 1.4 w/Canon Speedbooster
  • 50mm Canon 1.2 w/Canon Speedbooster
  • 50mm Sigma 1.2 w/Canon Speedbooster
  • 70-200 Canon 2.8 w/Canon Speedbooster
Of course, autofocus performance doesn't quite match Canon and Sony offerings, but I have found it to be more than sufficient when one-man-banding.

I think the performance is working really well, but what should be worked on are possible tracking features and software. If not in camera (if that's processor heavy), then at least in the Red Control app, which could use smartphone face tracking within the app to guide the focus box... But I'm not sure there's even any effort being put into this, it feels like Komodo development just stranded and all efforts are now pulled into Raptor and the next iteration of that system. Sadly, I think Komodo will just be what it is now with some minor improvements and added equipment support. I would love to see Red prove me wrong, but so far there's just silence.

My Komodo autofocus experience was bad. Ill try it again since I see that a lot of you all had better experiences than me.

RED says that the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 III works with Komodo but has anyone had good success with version II ? Thanks
