  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shooting slow motion, you have many options on frame rates, from 48fps, 60, 120... 300, etc.

Is there a way to know how the final output will look like before?
If you are say shooting a scene that can only be done once and want it done in slow motion, but you dont know exactly how slow you want it.
How do you figure it out?

Another thing.
When shooting higher frame rates, how do you know what shutter speed you need to set your camera to?

Experience…
Testing a similar shot beforehand… Testing and then re-testing...
Learning by working as an assistant to a 'true' cinematographer...

If none of that works and you still want to call yourself a Cinematographer - hire a kickass 1st AC.

***Shoot at the highest framerate your camera allows at your chosen resolution - easier to speed up in post than slow down. As for Shutter angle, depends on lighting, how much motion blur you want / can stomach, and your own personal artistic style.
