  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

"Knowing" Trailer

movie looks silly to me, but its still cool to see a big studio trailer from a flick shot on RED :)

Even though the 640 rez trailer isn't very high, it sure does look good. It shows that with good lighting, RED will look amazingly good. Of course, that's true with most cameras. I've shot stuff on my old DVX-100A that looks amazing, but I also lit it well!

I think it does look silly, but I think it's because of the amount of melodrama within the trailer.

It could be good or it could be bad.

Nonetheless, I wholeheartedly agree that it's refreshing to see RED ONE being used in big films today :)

Downloaded the 1280x720 WMV copy of the trailer from IGN... looks pretty nice. A few of the close ups of the actors *other* than Cage seem to have a certain look or feel to them that I can't quite put my finger on, but is 'different' somehow... not necessarily in a bad way, but different nonetheless.

Doesn't the look remind you of Superman Begins? Maybe the same DP or colorist? I'll investigate later.

Do you mean Superman Returns, or Batman Begins?

It looks very intriguing, and is probably a fun thrill ride. I look forward to seeing it on the big screen.

Hmm that looks alright. Not Mindblowing, but not too shabby either. Waiting for glorious quicktime on this.

Alex Proyas directed Dark City and The Crow, so this could be interesting.

I'm waiting the QT version to show up also, to compare. The skin tones on that WMV files look awful. Almost like VHS skin tones, but with more detail. :-)

the skies seem a bit blown out but the foreground looks good.

look at the HD trailer around 1:45 when Nick is looking out the window and then looks back towards the camera. The left side of the face is completely blown-out (100%) no detail! NOT GOOD. I've seen better dynamic rage on many test shots found on this site. Something seems to be wrong here...

Some nasty skew at 1:51, very noticeable on casual viewing. Not good.

ahahahahahaahah everyone here is so funny scrutinizing shit..

FUCK SKEW

(sorry)

Hey, I just don't like skew. That's just my opinion. It looks like shit. And it ain't an artistic choice like exposure. It's a problematic and unfortunate artifact of sensor design. Some people don't mind it. Some people claim to love it. Go nuts. I'm just making an observation and offering my opinion.

when someone would have told me two years before , this film is shot with a camera (body) under 20.000 dollar i would have sent him to a clinic.

now, we are here. maybe not all is perfect, but it looks fine to me.
agree that some skins are very bright, but don´t judge a low res trailer please!!!! every professional here should know the difference to a final master... and: even those blockbuster DOPs are cooking with simple water, so they have errors too in their work. in the age of HD you can see, how often 35mm films are not in focus in some scenes! same for some exposure issues...
and: after entering red in my career i even more watch and discover blow out areas in 35mm films, and i have to say, there are a lot of too.

i don´t know whether "knowing" is a good movie in general (after the bad "indy 4" i lost my faith in blockbuster cinema made in hollywood to this time), but it pushes Red forward i am sure.

and i am convinced we will get some great independent "red" movies in the future...
