Hey everyone, I am a kiwi travelling the states, I am currently in Las Vegas and just thought I would check in with other redusers to get advice on any musts. I have been to Penn and Teller, they were pretty amazing, and have dropped into most of the major casinos so far, so maybe stuff a little bit more of the beaten track would be best. Also, my girlfriend is with me, so stuff that we can do together would be best.

Also, my trip is going to take me to boston, New York and then Santa Monica for the duration of the american film market, so any tips for those areas (or contacts with production financiers who would be interested in getting pitched a thriller project wioth Weta Workshop attached in the case of afm ) would be appreciated.

Go to the Neon museum if its still there...Freemont Street gallery. Take a RED...

and the pinball hall of fame too.

The House of Blues - mandalay bay is a wicked venue. - Course it depends on who's playing.

Thats if all these places still exist mind.

Check out the lounge at the Peppermill Restaurant on the Vegas strip. You both will love it, food's good too. Have a great trip stateside and good luck with the project.

Love... At the Mirage

Here here- that show is just incredible, especially if you even remotely like The Beatles. If it's sold out- just go to the box office right before a show. They typically have amazing seats held off for the last minute.

Highly recommend this one too. Any of the Cirque shows are first class, but the Beatles tribute is wonderfully done and the songs are digital remasters from the original studio tapes done specifically for this show.

Also as you go east stop in Chicago - the architecture - the lakefront - the Art Institute - the theatre - the restaurants - the people - I will argue for it being the best city in the USA.

Indoor skydiving. I had a blast last time I was there. Also find one of the "Concrete" vendors. It's like a frozen custard. If you can try and get out to the Grand Canyon.

New York: Be sure to eat some good panini and pizza. Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and natural history museums in the park--too bad it's winter and there's no Shakespeare in the park that's amazing. Conney Island probably isn't worth the subway ride so I would skip it. The Bronx Zoo is pretty incredible but it's a bit of a commitment and kind of out of the way if you want to go. I love wandering and shopping Soho. If your girlfriend likes shopping she'll love Soho. If you want to climb the statue of liberty and look out through the crown you might want to reserve tickets ahead of time. I hear it's getting kind of busy.

For me though the best part of New York is just to find a neighborhood and wander and explore all the personality and life of each area. But if you're pressed for time the above are in my opinion the must see things.

Boston: DON'T GET LOST. Seriously. Bring a GPS. Mark your parking space. You will never see your car again if you don't have a locator beacon on your parking spot. It's a labyrinth.

And in Chicago, at the Museum of Science and Industry, you can walk through a real-life WWII Nazi U-Boat. Just like the type in Das Boot -- only this one's real. Captured during the war, before the captain could scuttle her. She's a fascinating artifact from WWII and to my knowledge the only one of her kind in prime condition.

Sorry, I forgot the best thing to do in Vegas. I go there every trip. The Gun Store on Flamingo, a few miles from the strip, has a wonderful array of fully-automatic machine guns you can rent and fire live ammo. If you need some trigger time, may I suggest the SAW, the Tommy Gun, or an array of weapons from the world over, including the Uzi and the HK MP-5. (Honestly, the Tommy Gun is the most satisfying to shoot). Pistols too. Enjoy.

Hey everyone, lots of thanks for the advice so far. Tonight we are staying at the bellagio and to be honest just staring out the windows watching the fountain shows. They are awesome!
