  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Kiss those Side-Handle screws goodbye! - Monstercine

Jim,

Picked up your Hydra clamp at Cine Gear and really like it. Any chance of you making a Hyrda clamp without the clamp? I would like one with the same top to allow quick release and mount of the monitor, etc. but that would screw directly into the top mount and remain as a permanent fixture there.

Rails gives flexibility to mount on any rail, but it would be nice to also have a mount with the same quick release mount that I could screw into the top mount or a side mount.

Good idea huh? Feel free to send me one for giving you the great idea!

Mark,

What monitor are you using? Does it weigh more than Red's LCD?

We've not had a single complaint and have tested the clamps on many cameras - there are more than 100 in use now on large productions. Either you received a faulty clamp or your rods are slippery. I'd love to see if we can make that work for you.

We are currently in production on v_2.0 of the clamp and adding the new Quick Key handle to these so you will get much more tightening leverage.

Jim,

No just a standard Red LCD. It's fine just sitting there but if you bump it or apply any pressure to the arm, it wants to rotate on the rod. Perhaps I got a bad one, but the v2 version with the quick key sounds like the way to go. When will that be ready? It would be nice to swap mine with that version. As I said, I dig the clamp, it just isn't gripping my ET rod. And it's not the rod.

Let me know, and thanks for the follow up!

If you have tried to reach me via PM it appears to be broken so please feel free to email me directly at jim at monstercine dot com if you have any questions or want to make a reservation for the XL-Remote or Quick Keys. They are both available within 2 weeks.

Hey all,

There's been great response to our new 3-Way Quick Key - say it too fast and you'll get slapped. Another great usages we just discovered, beside the side handles, is replacing the large handle that comes stock on the ET EVF mount. The Quick Keys will also work in place of any 1/4-20 screws that you need quick releasability, as long as there's room to turn the handle.

I'll post pics of the EVF combo tomorrow...

Jim if you don't place a reservation will they sell out? Or will you have plenty to go around?

The first batch is a limited run, but we should have them available for a few weeks and we'll be manufacturing more so just let us know when you need them.

We'll also be making a shorter version for general mounting and eventually replacing the knob on our Hydra clamp with the Quick Key, plus we're designing a 3/8 version to replace the Red Drive-Battery Sling mount screw for quick releasability.

Is that a hydra clamp with a quick key on it pictured in the first post of this thread? I have the Zacuto Zdapter quick release for my LCD but this looks like it would be nicer, all one slick little piece.. The Zacuto thing is three separate pieces and the mini cheeseplate that holds the two quick releases together has sharp edges..

Am I missing anything? If I wanted to use monstercine gear to have a quick release for my red arm, what are the exact parts I would need to order? Just a hydra, or other stuff to go along with it? what size?

Here are links to previous Monstercine posts to clarify how our accessories fit the Red camera. The Hydra requires a spud to make it quick releasable from the clamp, but will work with our Quick Spuds or the Zacuto Zud - both are 15mm so you can also use standard 15mm rods to create extensions or custom configs via the clamp.

Currently the Hydra has a fixed Key handle but this will be replaced in future generations by the Quick Key concept and it will retrofit the first series of clamps - expect about a month for those.

All new products(XL-Remote Start Stop Switch, 3/8 Quick Spud, 1/4-20 Quick Keys, Quick Shoe Spud will be on the site early next week, but orders can be placed directly by emailing gretchen at monstercine dot com.

Monstercine Quick Key Delivery Update

Monstercine Quick Key Delivery Update

As usual with new designs, we've been tweaking the Monstercine Quick Keys to perfection and they're now off to manufacturing. So... we expect to start delivery on the first batch within two weeks. We apologize for this little delay, but we ran into a snag when we decided to cut a square hole in a round peg - literally.

For those of you who have made a reservation, you are on the list and should have received a confirmation email by now. You will also receive a new email in the next week or so to place your order.

FYI: the Quick Keys were originally designed for use with the Red Side Handles, but they also work great in place of any 14/ 20 threaded holes where you need quick releasability. They can also replace the large quick release handle on the ET EVF Mount and take up about half the space.

Our final price correction has been made for the Quick Keys after determining manufacturing costs. The final price is $26 each - $52 a set. They are now available for sale individually in either chemically matte blackened Stainless or standard Stainless finish. They are in full production now and will be shipping within two weeks.

If you ordered your Quick Keys at the initial offering price of $46 per set, we will still honor that price and thank you for your early interest.

*To purchase the Quick Keys, please email gretchen at monstercine dot com directly to place an order. The Quick Keys will be available for sale on the web site sometime later this week.
