This weekend in the Birns & Sawyer booth at Cine Gear Expo we're releasing the new Monstercine Quick Key for use with Red Side Handles or any other 14-20 threaded hole, including the ET Quick release arm on their EVF. You asked for them so we went to work and over-designed these guys with an integrated 3-position snap handle for greater leverage. The Quick Key is made of rigid machined Stainless Steel and eliminates the need for allen tools and offers fast adjustments. The handle snaps firmly into any one of the 3 positions due to its spring tensioned steel pin, which keeps it in the left, right, or center position so its never loose on your camera. The indents sit within a small groove and the rod-pin is tensioned to allow for just enough movement to snap in and out of the indents, but not enough to escape the groove.

The Quick Key is not yet available on our web site, but we'll have them on demo, along with our complete line of Red accessories, this weekend at Cine Gear Expo in the Birns & Sawyer booth, or you can order directly from us by sending an email request to sales at monstercine dot com. You have the option of blackened stainless or the low polish-bead blasted stainless finish to eliminate glare and reflection.

The Monstercine Quick Keys will be sold in sets of two with an estimated price of $46+ US (pair). Expected delivery time is two weeks so please place your orders soon to help us determine demand.

Sweet baby Jesus....well done!!

Love to get them...will you be doing them in black?

Hi,

Looks nice, I like the design. Not ball busting, just curios, why is this better than kip locks? Seems like a lot of work to make the things, so I am assuming they do something that Kips don't.

Cheers,

Nick

Edit - Just looked at the pictures some more, damn, 3 detents, that means springs and little balls, and SS is a pain to machine, seriously very nice, and for all the work that went into them, very reasonably priced.

I need to thank you for your enthusiasm and Greg Milnek for his great idea to make these guys. You two are at the head of the list and we designed with your needs in mind.

Nice. Is there some kind of stop that keeps the lever from falling out?

Chuck, those indents sit in a shallow groove in the bottom of the handle. The pin and ball are tensioned to spring just enough to escape those indents, but not enough to escape the groove.

This came from one of those little AHA! moments when looking for a simple but cool solution to the design problem. We had the same experience when we came up with our 5-way spud holder with a single tensioner on the Hydra Clamp. My Monstercine partner and I have a great time designing this stuff and we always push for unique solutions and try to throw in some cool feature-benefit. Possibly just for our own amusement, but we also get to use them on our Red. Primarily, we really appreciate it when you guys dig what we're putting out.

Very clever Jim. I knew you were using a spring loaded ball detent but didn't think of a groove in combo with the spots.

Will this fit the drive holder so I can position where I want then lock it down?

Definitely interested in a two sets.

When are you going to put it up on the website for order?

Thanks!

The new products should be online within the week. Until then, please feel free to email gretchen at monstercine dot com and reserve parts for delivery in a few weeks. They will also be available to check out in person at Birns and Sawyer in LA.

Hello,

Would definitely need to ship it as I am on the other coast. I just dropped her a message with the request.

Love the focus hook I got from you guys!

Thanks,

Paul,

These are designed specifically for the Side Handle depth, but we're also making the same product for use with any 1/4 20 hole on Red or ET products.

Hey Jim,

These look great.

But I have to ask, can you retrofit something similar for your Hydra clamp? Or re-visit those? I bought one from you at NAB, intending to replace my Zacutto clamp, but you can't really tighten the clamp down enough to get a solid grip on the rod. The lever is too small to the hand to get good leverage. With a monitor attached, the clamp always wants to rotate on the rod. So, my AC's just chuck in the case and go back to the Zacutto.

I really like the industrial design and quality of the machining on the Hydra, and that's why I bought it on the spot. But the existing lever on the rod side leaves a lot to be desired.

any chance you guys are going to make a 15mm universal adapter?

Mark,

What monitor are you using? Does it weigh more than Red's LCD?

We've not had a single complaint and have tested the clamps on many cameras - there are more than 100 in use now on large productions. Either you received a faulty clamp or your rods are slippery. I'd love to see if we can make that work for you.

We are currently in production on v_2.0 of the clamp and adding the new Quick Key handle to these so you will get much more tightening leverage.
