Hey all. I am really struggling over here trying to find examples of stuff shot with either the Carbon or Pearl Kipper Tie OLPF second gen, DSMC2 filters. I couldn’t find anything on here or online. I couldn’t find a channel on Vimeo or YouTube that had examples. Anyone know of some links?

Thanks for posting these Bob! I Ioved the look of the carbon 1 demo.

I keep a Carbon 1 OLPF almost permanently fixed in my Monstro. It is very subtle and the halation just takes the edges of highlights. IMHO I would classify its strength as less than a 1/8 (Pro Mist or Fog). It so subtle I even leave it in place for chroma key shoots. If you require a more pronounced effect the Pearl range is probably better. A cautionary note that the Kippertie OLPFs are not automatically recognised by your camera so whenever you do a FW upgrade you need to manually set the camera so it knows which OLPF is in place. Forget this and you will be very unhappy.

Thanks guys. Rand, you don’t have any more examples up your sleeve? I thought you would have at least a few. Basically, I feel like I would want both stages of Carbon, I just don’t want to drop $1,200. I would rather just lift shadows a bit than bloom highlights. That way I can print down a bit and get a smooth shadow tone, instead of crunchy. I will probably just go with a carbon 1 and then rent diffusion filters if I want more effect.

Micheal,

Like you I looked on Vimeo and YouTube. I believe the earliest video I saw was from around 6 months ago, but I'll keep looking .

another note is the Kippertie stuff is close to Skintone in tramsmision... for super low light shoots it is maybe not what you want? My guess with Gemini (and it is a near complete guess) is that it could benefit from a more skintone type IR block...

I genenuinly think Kippertie carbon 1 should be a standard option in every kit... I prefer to add to that carbon 1 with on the front filters like Tiffen Glimmer glass for example when I want more

I leave Carbon 2 in my Helium for most shoots. I like extra halation and softness (in terms of quality of light, not sharpness) and it works really nicely. Only a few things I've shot with it in are viewable online or easy to see (like sometimes I'll stack Glimmer, Pearl, etc in front of the lens as well).

Upcoming Netflix shows Dark Crystal and Witcher are shot entirely using KipperTie OLPFs. (Gold and Pearl respectively)

Worth mentioning as a few images from these have started to appear online.

Amazing John. Are you guys creating any other diffusion?
