  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KineRaw

KineRAW as far as I can read about it so far from above, appears to be recording in DNG like Blackmagic and the larger camera records also to Cineform. I understand it is limited to 2K from a 4K sensor. Unless there is something infringing in the path from sensor to encoder, there does not seem to be anything sueable there. Apparently the KineRAW folk have an established track record in purposed cameras for satellites and astronomy. Like the Kinor range of digital cinema cameras published some time back, they seem to have embraced all film formats, Super8, Super16 and Super35. It seems S8 and S35 is their focus. It would be interesting to know if the IP is connected with Kinor or if they have sailed alone.

The visual appearances of the cameras, like the new Sonys, seems superficially styled similar to the RED and ARRI casework. The "ripple-iron" art of the RED casework and accessories is unique and is not copied. The holey sheetmetal under the base of the "Mini" might be an aesthetic emulation of cages but the cambera bodies themselves seem individual enough to stand alone. Time will tell. Lawsuit through the Chinese legal system could be an interesting adventure. The best RED could hope for, if there are infringing components in these cameras would be a US court decision to deny the US market and to seek separately to deny market into Canada, Oz, the UK and maybe the Euro Communty. However, there might be a bit of trouble with free trade agreements.

It might end up being the Super35mm 2K camera that many folk wished would be the next generation SI camera, still outputting via ethernet to a computer-recorder.

NOTE: Correction was made to some misleading grammar error in the second paragraph since this response first went up as the original sentence structre, whilst it made sense to me was capable of being interpreted differently from what I was stating.
