  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Kinefinity MAVO Edge

Thanks Alot Cameron! I first got started color grading back in early 2001 with Avid Media Composer. I did small projects for churches, businesses of friends...etc. Mostly I didn't charge them much at all to help them.

However, as you spend more time doing anything you eventually you get good at it. When I joined Reduser in 2011, I realized I had to step my game up a whole hell of a lot before I even started posting here. So I didn't really start posting here in earnest until about 2016. I had my artistic skills as a former painter but very little technical knowledge at all. Reduser helped me to confine my creative skill within technical boundaries. I didn't like the critics of my earlier works on this forum from individuals with much more technical knowledge than myself, but I needed it and it help me grow alot in my own knowledge.

Well said, and now you're giving back. As a young screenwriter, I blew some pretty big opportunities because I didn't understand the skill and necessity of applying criticism in this business. Sadder but wiser now.

Cameron,

I think we all think that our work is the greatest thing God ever graced this earth with until we find out differently. My father always told me never stay in the company of people whom are overly impressed by you for too long, they'll never tell you the truth when you really need to hear it

I believe the " Eliza Mini" referenced in the article is the poor translation of the " Alexa Mini"

Here is finally a good photo of the E-Mount for the Kinefinity Mavo Edge from the article. From the article, I also found out that the Kinemount has a 15mm Flange distance. I would sure like to know what handgrip with a record trigger button this is depicted in these photos from the article

You will probably need a Arri Rosette extension for that cable to fit between the camera body and the handgrip

Choices

By Kodak Motion Picture Film

Discover how choosing 3-Perf, 2-Perf, or S16mm formats can help you achieve the look you want, save you money, and preserve your work on the medium that sets the standard. You have choices

4-Perf examples are presented as well in the video

Jerome Expects to Upload additional Mavo Edge Footage by the end of the week

Screenshot-2006.png

Sorry, I misunderstood what he was doing there with that.

Thanks alot Les for understanding! I know it must seem strange that message coming from me who grades every Damn thing he sees, But ever since I got "Assed-Out" for Regrading a Video I didn't have permission to regrade, I now stick to only grading posted Prores files Jerome uploads. I have been allowed to continue posting from his site based on that understanding.

I believe this image will be used for some other purpose by him.

It's all cool Rand.

I'm just interested in what these other non-RED camera's can do image-wise, but I'm not so interested in it that I'm willing to deal with 'permissions' and alternate purposes/agenda's etc.

I can see most of what I need to see from other people's tests and finished footage. Having actual files to check out is just a bonus.

At the moment, I actually like what I'm seeing from the Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K more than any other RED alternative, so I'm paying more attention to it than I might otherwise.

Would probably still try and get a Komodo or 2nd hand RED of some sort if I had to get a 'new' camera tomorrow, but I'm still keeping a curious eye on what else is out there now.

I remember not being impressed by the low-light performance of some of the earlier Kinefinity camera's, so would be interested to see how the MAVO Edge 8K performs in that regard before moving on.

Les, Did you see this Video of Mavo Edge Night footage.

Also, he Uploaded some stills of the Mavo Edge at 3200 to 5500 ISO, If I Find them I will repost them.

Here's a Few Night time stills that range from 3200ISO to I think it was about 5500ISO

Thanks Rand, I did see that footage earlier (and went back through the thread to look for low-light examples too after I mentioned it :) ).

The MAVO Edge does look to be performing better in low light than the previous Kinefinity camera's, from what I can recall.

Would still like to see the actual quality of the noise though, ie. how the image looks when even shooting at f/1.4 isn't enough.

I get the impression it would be alright, but am still curious.

I imagine the usual tests and side-by-side comparisons etc. will turn up when more of the cameras are out there, no big deal.
