  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

Stay away from the Ds. The 60 degree tilt sucks, then the handle always gets in the way of sliding your quickplate off/on the dovetail so you are constantly moving the handle.

The movement of the 1030Ds is nice, and a 100mm ball mount is nice for quick uneven setups but do you self a favor and get the 1030D that does the full 90 degree tilt for when you might needed it.

RTxactly, but this is also why I prefer the Miller Compass 25, as it does not have the outer cheap plastic filling of the 1030, and it has so far literally travel the world on my Gitzo Mountaineer 6X Carbon sticks, and worked extremely well under all conditions and temperature variation, from 20 below Zero, to 140 above it.

Yes I had the O'Connor 1030HD head and like it, but found that the Miller 25 was better, and that is what I got for small set ups.
Aha, that is interesting. Any special reason why you think the Miller is better?

My main goal is to have the rig portable by 2 people. I will get a few Red Primes and use Tangerine Mattebox some of the time so it will be a medium heavy setup I guess.
My plan is having 2 backpacks, maybe 10kg each with equipment and then one of us carry the tripod as well so maybe 8kg in the tripod weight.

Main reason really was the built quality, as the outside cover on th e1030 is plastic, which would be broken in few short trips, and that would expose the interior elements ot dust and what more, also I found the Miller 25 Compass, more resistant to the elelments, and in fact after shooting with it in the deserts of Dubai, and Rack, to the Mountain ranges in below Zero, and near the ocean as well as in super hot temperature, has yet in two years to give me a single problem, and always very smooth.

However each one's choices are based on their individual needs, so I would strongly advise for you to do what I did, test them both in store, analyze them and make your then inform decision.

Again, so smooth, I only use the tip of my finger to operate it with a loaded EPIC.

Ketch,

When you get a chance would you upload a few pics of the Miller?

Wow, that tripod is tiny.

What are your thoughts on the Sachtler tripods and heads?

No spreader needed?

One last questions:

What are you thoughts on 100mm vs Mitchel mounts? Mitchel is leveled at the legs for more studio type work. 100mm for going outdoors / uneven terrain?

No spreader needed?

No spreader on the Gitzo's, they have specific lock points to allow for wider spreading, this are Photographer's best Sticks, expensive but the best and lightest, also the most versatile, with a twist quick lock system.

They can go as high as 8 Feet.

A bawl head is always faster to level on uneven terrains, while the Mitchell Mount, heavier, but much studier and preferable for heavier cameras, of course a bit more trouble to level it, as here you need ot make you err level with the legs, not the Head.

Also you don't want to use 100mm for heavy loads, best go to the 150mm, but for the Epic so far I have been extremely happy with the 100mm Miller Compass 25.

That's a nice one of you. A man in his element. Are you going to play the male lead in RofAB?

Thanks Will, yes I am, I only write Scripts for my self, to Act, Direct and Produce.

SO my first film as well as "PERSEVERANCE" and "An ANGEL's FINAL SACRIFICE" will all see me as the Male lead, or at list one of them... ;)

And this is why I am now working out hard to get back in to shape and prep for my first role.

3 months of hard work and you'll be surprised, or rather others will be surprised how much the human body can change. I believe.

He he, well, given my severe medical conditions, I might need 6 months, but I can promise you now that I will show all those Doctors and Professors, all VERY WRONG about me... ;)

I might not be able to change Shells at will like the creatures under the Sea can do, neither can I get a new Avatar, (at list not yet) but I can sure use the unique Strength I have demonstrated to have time and time over, and use it to my absolute advantage in the Perseverance of the following of my DREAMS, no matter the age... ;)

Hey bro, get a house here with us and we can make films and get buff together.

Ho, I know, you sow this posts...

Well, for me since I'll be moving to the far Northern Italian region, were even so it is incredibly and beautifully Green for most of the year, in winter is completely white, covered in deep snow and I don't see a better use for the Monochrome then shooting such sceneries with it.

And I think the students will love it too, so yeah, I think I'll be soon taking a Monochrome Home... ;)

I bet you think I'm post stalking you now. :)

Ha ha!!

NO Will, not at all, and yes I do truly believe that our Universe has a pretty interesting way of working... ;)

Trentino Alto Adige, in the far Northern region of Italy, has been the chosen location for Italy's "KETCH ROSSi TREE of LiFE" Megaprogect as well as for the "KETCH ROSSi HUMANiTAS" FREE Film School (Free for those that qualify for a Scholarship).

And after much considerations for Vancouver and New Zealand, as well as the Southern Region of China, I decided that this will be the first location to open its doors, starting with the Film School of "KETCH ROSSi HUMANiTAS", which even so it will be a Non=Profit Organization, USA based, it will offer the most Technologically Advanced Film School Programs in the World, full of surprises within, soon to be announced... ;)

But soon, a Hundreds of International Film Students will be learning Italian... ;)

So here is a question you might be able to answer. Totally off topic from our usual film talk.

I have dual nationality. My mother being French and father American.

If I have a child born in Trentino Alto Adige, Italy will he/she have my dual citizenship and Italian citizenship? Or just American and Italian?

What about my 6 month old son. Does he get my French citizenship if he was born in the USA?

He he, complex questions Will, Legal Immigration consulting is suggested, however, if you have a child in Italy, He/She will be an Italian Citizen.

But I do think that your children will benefit of your same rights in the mentioned countries, after do paper work is done.
