  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi & Joseph Hutson's American EPIC Tour Begins...

Salt Lake City is about 5 hours drive away from where Gibby is located... FYI...

The U.S. tour was Ketch's idea. I think its a great idea, and as co-owner of Epic M8 I support it 100%. That said, I look forward to shooting with Epic M8 again :-)

When they get back to Utah they'll be coming to my ranch in southern Utah. Though I grew up in California, I was born in northern Utah and did my college work up there. There are definitely some beautiful areas up there - but there's a reason why in southern Utah there are five National Parks, seven National Monuments, and three National Recreation Areas - plus two more National Parks just over the state border from southern Utah - Grand Canyon and Great Basin. The reason all those parks and rec areas are clustered down here in and around southern Utah is because it is one of the greatest concentrations of natural beauty, terrain diversity, and recreation opportunities on the face of the earth. I've traveled producing/directing TV shows and doing cinematography to 70 countries in the world, and all over the USA - and southern Utah is where I've made my home base, for the reasons listed above. Its a shooters paradise down here...:-)

Ketch and Joseph,

I see you're considering Corvallis, Oregon. If you also want to spend some time in lovely Portland, Oregon, you'd be more than welcome to stay at my place. I can show you around town. It's rainy here, but it is still a beautiful city, especially at night. I'd love to see some EPIC nighttime footage of downtown from the Marquam Bridge. And there's the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Coast, etc. Tons of great places to shoot. And one of my best friends is a fashion photographer here in town who might be able to help set up something with a model or two.

If you want any additional information, please let me know via PM. I would love to meet both of you!

:::THE IDEA:::
As I prepare to permanently move back home (Italy), I wish a final farewell to my beloved USA which has been my
home for the past 22 years. I have decided to embark in an EPIC tour of America with EPIC-M8
(a Big thanks to Steve Gibby for letting us take our baby on this trip, a possible second EPIC M loaner could come along as a back up).

This tour will have a much deeper meaning than just having something to show my family back at home.
It will be a memento for me to reflect upon an important chapter in my life...and much much more.

:::THE PLAN:::
Joseph Hutson (my accomplice), and I will fly city to city starting here in Los Angeles (LAX).
In each city we visit, we plan to showcase its beauties by capturing them in the EPIC's full 5k glory!

:::WHAT WE NEED:::

Hosts

What is a host? It is an individual or a company who wishes to represent their city/business in the best light possible.
They know their area well (they know the beautiful nearby shooting locations) and or their business has something to offer.
This does include the possible collaborative effort of a mini-Movie style shoot.

Also they will be willing to provide transportation and lodging.

:::WHEN:::
Monday, March 21st we set out for our first destination. As this entire week develops we may properly schedule our "EPIC" adventure!

:::HOW:::
We will gather all cities to visit during this week, accordingly to the offers received by our Community's members that wish to "host" us.

:::SPONSORS:::
We are receiving offers from various companies to Sponsor our Adventure, and we gladly accept any type of Sponsor to assist us in this Unique EPIC AMERICAN Trip.
Just contact me directly with your Sponsor offer, so that we can give it proper consideration, however we can not ware any type of advertisement on us or our gear,
which is made by other companies, as an example we can not place a sticker of your company's logo on the EPIC. However if you are offering gear,
we make sure that it is properly featured in all our BTS videos and pictures as well as proper credits given in the footage.

:::DISCLAIMER:::
At this time we can not make promises that each host will have the privilege of personally self-operating the EPIC.
However, we will make it our duty to share to the maximum of our ability...

:::NOTE:::
We will not be able to accept all offers but we appreciate each and every one of them made to us.
We also look forward to sending RED our captured materials for the upcoming EPIC Reel for NAB... ;)

Thanks for replying within this thread, and we look forward to this opportunity...

American Epic Tour

Joseph and Ketch,

I live in Visalia, CA the Gateway to the Sequoias. About an hour drive from the Giant Redwoods, Sequoia and Yosemite Parks. Plenty of snow on the ground right now. The San Jouaquin Valley is home to America's Largest Agriculture Production Area. Row crops, citrus, fruit and nut orchards, dairys, vineyards.

I have a clean modest home with a spare bedroom and a car in which I could take you to the National Parks or Vally floor. I can put you up in the spare bedroom. It has a queen bed in it and we have a couch in the front room

Its so true, i just got done with a trip to the national parks around moab, and was consistently stunned around every bend. ( it was also nice to be able to get where others couldnt with my brothers Jeep.

If you do come to utah, you have to go to moab/ canyonlands/arches

Its nutty to think of the contacts you have at such a young age (i think we are close, im 20) you are guna be a huge drive in the industry in the coming years and i just gotta say i admire you and look up to you as a role model.

Zac, I love those pictures. Good work!

Sacramento area...

Sacramento area...

Although I don't post much, I felt compelled to jump on such an opportunity to host or possibly assist a host with beautiful locations.

If you're considering the Tahoe / Sacramento area, my family and I are very familiar with both. I'll give you a little background on my knowledge of the area... My grandparents grew up and lived in northern California for much of their lives. In 1955 they entered into a land-lease lottery that the US Forest Service held, and won the very last property of 50 lots in 1961. My father, 16 years old then, spent his entire summer and fall helping my grandfather build a two story cabin. I spent every summer there growing up, it is an amazing place.

It is located just off of highway 88, at Bear River, in between Jackson and Kirkwood. The places we can go and see are nothing short of breathtaking... Mokelumne Peak (just shy of 10,000ft - zero civilization out there, just good ole nature... Eagles, Bears, etc..), Kirkwood, the many lakes and streams and more.

Of course, there's also the rich gold mining history in Jackson, Sutter Creek, Mark Twain's story of the Jumping Jubilee and Calavaras county, beautiful Wine country, and so much more. Most of that is on the Sacramento side... there's also a ton of beauty coming in from Interstate 80 from Reno/Tahoe.

My parents also have a place in Placerville, CA, which is about 20 minutes from Folsom, CA.

Let me know if I can help you guys in any way.

Best of luck on your trip!

-Ben

Have fun, Troops! It occurred to me that shooting inside Carlsbad Caverns or Mammoth Cave would be an epic test of an Epic camera... just sayin'. Have a great trip!

AUSTIN, TX is calling! I'm in dallas, so can't really hook up the places to stay, but if you guys make it to the area, I'll be more than happy to drive everyone and show off the awesome city and scenery. Every evening over a million bats fly out from the congress bridge... it's EPIC. And I'd love to see it on EPIC There's a lot of DVXusers, REDusers and Scarletusers here in N. TX, so I'll try and make some calls and see what we can make happen if you guys are interested at all.

Here's a random video of the bats I just found on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/717327

I love the idea guys and know, you will have so much fun. If you guys feel like taking the short flight from LAX to Burbank, I can host

Vladimir

Already posted on Scarletuser on Joseph's thread but I figured I'd post here too.

And I can host my area. I'm right by the Space Center and if you give me a bit of a notice ahead of time I can see if I can get us to go out there.

I'm also about an hour from Orlando where we have Universal Studios and Disney.

And I also have a pretty big 3 bedroom apartment. Granted me and my girlfriend are sharing it with her mom and her boyfriend but we have plenty of room for more.

And if you aren't able to stay in Florida longer than your Miami trip I'd be more than happy to go down there too and help out.

Any chance of talking Red into loaning you guys a Scarlet fixed prototype for the BTS footy?

Any chance of talking Red into loaning you guys a Scarlet fixed prototype for the BTS footy?

Been there, done that :-)

I tried seven weeks ago to get a proto Fixed Lens Scarlet for Joseph to use for the BTS video of the Epic M8 production in Utah, but there wasn't an extra prototype available for us to use - all were busy being tested by Red. If anyone could get a loan of a Fixed Lens Scarlet from Red, that would probably be me. Right now I'm thinking that Red is focused down on getting Epic X and the Scarlet Fixed ready for production, so I don't think we'll even be asking for that now. Also, since all the features of the Fixed Scarlet haven't been unveiled, I don't think Red would want one of those protos going out on an advanced notice multi-city tour like this one - too many chances for theft or loss - something I'm sure Red wouldn't never want to see - but especially at this point just before NAB.

I'd guess that we'll see a bunch of fully functional Fixed Lens Scarlets demonstrated at NAB :thumbup1:

For your consideration...
