  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Kessler Crane CineSlider Group Buy - Feb 2012

Martin - sorry to hear that your internet is down and now you're trying to hassle to get everyone their codes.

What's the saying? No good deed goes unpunished?

Anyway - code please! I didn't receive a pm - please send to boacinema(at)gmail(dotcom) :)

When your internet speed is measured in baud, you become aware how uneffective a means of communication PM is. I hope I have caught up on those that somehow didn't get the code.

I certainly learned again that no matter how good you plan ahead, problems do arise, and they don't like to come alone…

I have sent those that have posted here or sent me an e-mail a new PM with the code — e-mail is currently too slow to be usable. Should be fixed tomorrow.

So – if you have not received the code — or want to be a late joiner to the party — either leave a post here *or* send me a PM with the subject "Want code". Please don't do both at this point. (for programmers: PM XOR e-mail)

If you have sent me a reminder already, but have not received a pm, please send me another PM with the subject "Still no code", including your e-mail address.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll have regular, proper, grown-up, welcome to the new millenium, information highway speed again, and everything should be possible to sort out quicker and simpler. No need to panic at this stage, you have until Friday to order your CineSlider.

Sorry for the slightly bumpy road for a few of us. But then again, we are redusers ! (darn, with some proper internet, I could've made a quick 300 variant poster. Well, well...)

A few have asked me what to order along with their Slider. I am no expert at all, maybe Tom or others with actual experience can join in. You will need something to rest the slider on; the cheapest alternative is nothing, or rather what you have on hand; this has to be an even surface, for example a table. Next step up is a set of feet from Kessler, that stabilize the mount better. The outrigger feet are for rougher terrain. To get your slider up to a higher level - or on very uneven terrain, you have to use a tripod. On the 3' version you can center-mount the tripod. On the 5' you need support on both sides; one can be the tripod, the other one a C-Stand or a spare lighting stand. (The 3' version can also be center-mounted on for example a jib.)

On the slider carrier you need something to connect to your camera. The simplest method is to use the Flat Mount adapter to fix the camera flush onto the slider. Or you can put a quick release inbetween, for quicker changes from slider to standard tripod use. Alternatively for lighter cameras (up to about 5 lbs), you can use a Magic Arm for great flexibility (you'll also need the Flat Mounta adapter in this scenario). You can attach a tripod head to the slider; again either with the Flat mount adapter, or for greater flexibility with the hi hat.

I would recommend to watch a couple of the videos that are on Kessler's website (I think it was in the Slider section, there you can click on the "videos" tab.)

And remember - you can always order the small bits and bobs that are missing afterwards.

If it is any help, here's what I ordered, with quick comments:

Kessler CineSlider w/ Soft Case - 5ft
[Feet Add-On:All-Terrain Outrigger Feet] -- for those very low shots, or when using tables, etc.
[Camera Mount:Flat Mount Adapter] -- for either the Magic Arm, or to re-use an old Vinten head

Self-Adhesive Measuring Tape - 5 ft CineSlider™ -- for motorized timelapse calculations

Manfrotto 143A Magic Arm -- Mr. flexibility for DSLR timelapses

elektraDRIVE BUNDLE PACKAGE with ORACLE Controller -- move it, baby
[Oracle Add-On:Joystick Protector]
[elektraDRIVE Motor Mount:CineSlider / Stealth]
[elektraDRIVE Motor:elektraDRIVE 500 Series Motor Pod (516:1)] -- that seems to be a good starting motor, and provides the highest torque
12v DC Power Adapter
Bescor 12v (7.2 Ah) Battery
ORACLE Control System - Controller ONLY

cam-ctrl-box Kessler Camera Control Module -- so that I can use the Oracle as an intervalometer as well
[Camera Control Cable:N3+] -- 5D Mk II

Hi Martin, sorry to hear about your internet troubles. It's crazy how much we rely on the Internet, but here we are. I didn't get the PM. you can send the code to my email: morning [at] bestlightdigital [dot] com

Thanks again! I'm sure some blessings will come your way to maintain your karmic balance.

Hang in there guys. I'm sure Martin's on it.

I got mine and my order is in. Thanks Martin!

I'm at work now, and finally have some decent speed again. Ah, the joy.

All those who wrote either here or sent me a PM have now been PM'd the code.

Also note for those considering an Oracle system, that Kessler announced (video) a new digital, keyframeable, multi-axis system last NAB, but it has not started shipping yet. Might come out after this year's NAB. Pricepoint likely to be in the 4-5K range, so quite a bit more than the current 1.3k — but then again, having multiple axises.

I think I'll go ahead with the Oracle so I can learn on it and hopefully earn the funds for the new system.

Wow! Very impressive! The best part is, correct me if I'm wrong, it looks backward compatible with the CineSlider. I might need to rethink what size slider to get now! May just get both! Going to definitely check out Kessler @ NAB. Great stuff Martin! Thanks!

Martin,
I received the email yesterday and order has been placed. Thanks again.
Cheers.

Got the code!!! Thanks so much, Martin! Now figuring out how to send beer over the Atlantic. ;)
