For the moment I'm going to keep my Early 2008 15" MBP Core Duo 2.4Ghz machine as it will play back 4K r3d files at 1/8th, which is fine for the moment. What I'd like to do is optimize it as best I can with both internal and external drives that will continue to serve even after this current MBP is no longer viable. I wish to do the things below but am not entirely sure about them so questions will accompany:
1) Get an SSD as the MBP's primary drive. Question: Will it help to get an SSD that is sized primarily for the applications? I don't plan to get one large enough to hold the files I'm working with.
2) External drives. Two 7200rpm eSata drives that will connect to the MBP via a two-port eSata adapter that will to in the MBP's express slot. I have a few things I'm unsure about here. Is it true that this works best when one is the source and one the scratch drive? Some have said to get a RAID. Does that mean each is a RAID instead of just a normal drive and, if so, is it RAID 1, which I think is slower?
