I've been working with 2 Reds in the oppressive Texas heat and I would gladly welcome any suggestions as to how to keep the cameras from overheating.
Temperatures are near 100 degrees, the cameras are shaded form the sun, the fan setting is set to hot, and frozen gel packs are applied to the top of the camera body. They still overheat sometimes. We are using build 15.

thanks!

Chris Burket made a rain cover and cooling barney. I spoke with him at cinegear here in Los Angeles yesterday. A very nice man who does great work. He might be able to help you. One thing he mentioned about his cooler was that he had a piece of insulation between the cooling module and camera body that prevented any water or condensation from dripping on, or in, the camera. Sorry your having issues. It is very hot in Los Angeles too. Universal was like hell yesterday.

Thanks for the ice pack tips- ice packs and fans were our salvation- even tho my water cooled system worked for a while as well. The client could NOT be happier with the footage. I was in the un enviable position of being the Red 'expert" on set even though my experience was limited to being a Red user since December. Well that was enough, the Red came though with flying colors.
Even with the occasional overheating and the seeming interminable powerups
the cameras performed brilliantly to the delight of both the director and the client. The director will be using a Red on a political spot next week based on the positive experience of our TWO WEEKS IN HELL in Texas. Nothing against Texas it was just bloody hot. I cannot imagine how our troops perform in Iraq in their armor and the oppressive heat.

Thanks Red!
