  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night How did they do the clean look?

Look at the reflections in KP's glasses at 2:53. You can see not only the lights, but the brand of camera used to shoot the video. Numerous other places where the eyes tell the story: lots and lots of big fills.

I couldn't make out the cam, I could see some sort of gear though for sure. Would I be able to use china balls?

behind the scenes shows a film camera.

Big, soft light sources, either tungsten or daylight will work.

But a lot of the look is actually art direction I would say. Lots of saturated, contrasting colors in the clothes and props.

The bigger the source the better to emulate something like that. At the very least, put an 800w Joker HMI through an 8'x8' full grid making sure to light the grid as evenly as possible. If your budget and space allows, bounce an M18 HMI off a 12'x12' Ultrabounce and back through a 12'x12' full grid. That will allow you to put the source farther from the subject so the falloff will be more even across the space.

Very helpful, thank you very much this is what I was trying to replicate, that large but very soft even light.
