I would rent before buy any K5600 product. They seems to take things about 90% there with fit and finish. Good stuff but expensive and not always fully worked out

Zeb is spot on, exactly my experience as well. Now regarding these umbrellas, wow they are pretty similar to the yellow ones, I´m just curious to see if Briese has licensed them or is going to take legal action...

You´d be surprised what Briese already pulled off. He is well known to fight every company that gets into reach. He already won against the first broncolor Paras (the pre FB version, guess what FB stands for...), those unit where confiscated by law. Also Profoto had problems with their first series. Last case I know of is B2Pro, as a strange business move he even posts this in his news section (http://briese-lichttechnik.de/news/) As far as I understand it´s not the umbrella itself that is protected but the way the lamp is focussed inside. This one actually looks dangerously similar to Brieses, that´s why I hope for K5600 they licensed it...

Cheers

Fascinating. Thanks for the info. I love getting schooled.

Yeah, these umbrellas get a lot of use in fashion / music work (well, at least the yellow ones). Having them powered by a 800W Joker would be a big plus as they are very efficient from the light output and can get too bright very fast.

I used to use the yellow ones a fair bit.. But found that a 1.6 joker in a 5 and 7foot umbrella was right for me most of the time when I was basically looking for a soft roundish source. A 1.6 joker in a octodome is as powerful as a 4k in the same octodome.

That said when you use briese as a very large hard source (which takes a bit of time to get your head around) they are the only way! Until now perhaps;-)

I used it on a commercial shoot yesterday and it's spectacular. I've used the Briese's and the Broncolor Para's for years and this is better for me. The kevlar construction is much better than the others. The rods are much heavier duty and the softer silver vs. the mirror finish on the others is gentler on skin. I ran it with the 1600 Joker. Here's a walk through video.

That battle already fought between Broncolor & Briese and both were instructed to pay their own legal fees & proceed with their products. The design predates Briese.
