Something else I thought was funny. in the press release it says that 4k is four times the quality of HD. How can they state this in the press release when it's not true? haha

but 4k is 4x HD...

"1/2.3-inch CMOS imager with 8.3 million active pixels, it delivers real-time 3840×2160 footage at 24p, 50p, or 60p."

2/3 Scarlet would have been a good contender.

Post-production happyness in H264...:
-4K Recording: 3,840 x 2,160 MPEG-4 AVC/H.264(.MP4) 4 Stream Separate Recording 60fps/50fps/24fps Progressive at 144Mbps
JVC file utility included for combining separate streams into single editable file

And just for fun :

“4K is the logical step beyond HD,” said Shane. “And JVC is uniquely positioned to lead the industry in this new direction.”

HAHAHAHA, JVC states in the article:

"...high end digital motion picture cameras may capture 4K images, but often provide a raw data output to an external storage array for later processing—again due to lack of processing power in the camera."

Because RED did this due to a lack of processing power...NOT...

yeah I guess the small sensors are not dead yet. :)

that 4xHDMI output... as I understand it you get 1/4 of the res per HDMI slot and hook up 4 screens!?
well, they mentioned it's "unusual" :)

Patrick, I can't begin to tell you how amazed I am at the Scarlet after having it for one day. The image quality per frame is at the stills level is unreal. Red is a real pro camera, and really not for everyone because of the cost of SSD's etc. If you want to make high quality TV or films, there is no really affordable equal. I would keep your eye on a scarlet. This new JVC camera is cool because it really satisfies the "good enough" prosumer crowd. People will do amazing things with it, but like the C300, the image won't compare. I'm editing 5d footage today, and all I can think is F*&^K, I wish I had scarlet last year with the shit I have seen and filmed this year. 5D HD footage is not good enough for me anymore.

hm sounds grrrrrrrreat!
I got my order out last year... so if nothing happens to my funding, sometime this year, I'll hold it in my hands. :)

1. 60P oh yeah!

2. Realtime debayer - awesome!

3. 144mbps is not bad!

4. If you're still getting compression artifacts, you could always just hook up all 4 of those HDMI outputs to external recorders :)

5. Sadly no genlock and no ability to slave FIZ from one camera to another... this would have been fun for 3D otherwise!

Maybe someone will come up with an enterprising hack though...

Canon hasn't shipped or final priced their product yet. This JVC entry will certainly affect the final offering an perhaps the specs.

Low light comparisons of all mid-priced cams will be an interesting shootout
