I think you are right David. I think they will have considerable trouble finding Nikon-F lenses that could satisfy ENG applications and allow for 4k critical focusing at the same time. Given PL lens bonanza this year, it would be risky to market any S35 camera with a mount other than a PL mount.

It's sort of a strange camera to be putting out. There isn't any need for live 4K right now, and it doesn't seem to be aimed at cinema work. Kind of random. But really, any 4K news is good news IMO.

Yeah it is a bit of an oddball since there are no 4k broadcast systems that I'm aware of.

and symetrical GigE teleconferencing sounds like a pretty small marketplace into the forseeable future. Would be very cool to see a live 4k stream. I'm just not certain who has the bandwidth to make it possible.

Maybe they could stream a live 4k concert to theaters. That could be interesting. But again... bandwidth considerations.

I mean, is it possibly geared toward cinema?

Certainly most of us could not afford 200K, but it's in line with Sony cinema cams.

Bandwidth is quite possible.... I know some very clever individuals here in Japan directly involved in that sort of live streaming.

JVC 4K focus

JVC 4K focus

JVC has been showing prototypes of a QuadHD - 3840 by 2160 (nominal 4K) projector but AFAIK it is not yet a shipping product. Perhaps they are looking to market a 4K ecosystem that in the short term might be aimed at closed environments - teleconferencing, large venue display, whatever. The cool thing is that they seem interested in developing technologies that might be of great interest to our community.

Anyone think we will have 4K sports in our living rooms in 10 years? 20? How about 1080/60P?

I think Red will get there first with Scarlets and Epics. ENG/EFP is a need.

Is it me or NAB 2009 proved to be dissapointing in terms of new cameras? I would have expected the major competitors to turn out at least something in the range of specs and price of Red, instead, nothing!

They didn`t developed it yet and they don`t share any news and ideas from their labs as Jim, so its obviously nothing there.
