  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

How about removing your avatar Andrew? I hate having guns pointed at me. Is that just an American trigger happy thing?

My avatar doesn't violate any rules on this forum. People only seem to complain about it when I post a thread about guns or something like this. If its a timelapse video, people never say anything about my avatar.

Except when this whole thing was going down I was rocking my Red hat. Now those guys will fear Red.
 
A red colored hat in LA? Maybe that's all the problem was?

I don't even know if they were after your gear man. They could have just been part of a gang and got offended that you were repping the color of their opposing gang. You know how silly all that stuff is, especially in the bad parts.

EDIT: Oops, yeah it is black. There goes that theory.

Great looking shot btw. It's a shame that you had to go through that to get it though.
 
Don't care if it is within the rule book, grow some balls and remove it please

The hat is black. Look on Red's site. They have a picture of it on there.

I've had plenty of people come up to me and ask what I'm doing when I'm doing shots like this. These guys didn't want to see what I was doing or ask directions. You can see someone's intend on their face and there's was saying, "I'm going to jack your camera and jack you up."

lol andrew is a smart guy & better yet.. have good sense of humor.. he lives or is used to shoot in another world.. that's all.

a few members of the gang have come from NZ to LA recently.. life's disappointment they say

So I was shooting some timelapse down in LA on the 6th Street bridge right after the sun went down with my 5D2. As I stood there watching the cars go by as my camera clicked away frames. I noticed the same car that just drove by me drive by again with all 4 occupants looking at me as they went by on the other side of the street. This was kind of making me question why they were doing this because they didn't look lost at all. More like, looking for trouble. The car kept going down the street and I thought that was it.

I got back to looking at my camera snapping pictures and then I looked back down the street and saw the same car coming towards me on my side of the street. Right when I saw them coming down the road towards me I knew something was wrong. I put my hand on my gun under my jacket knowing what was about to happen was going to go down one of two ways. One, they start shooting me and steal my gear or two, try and take it by force. Luckily for me it was option two. The car pulled up slowly on a bridge where there is no stopping for whatever reason and the mexicans in the car looked at me for a second and then started getting out of the car coming towards me. They didn't say one word to me as they got out of the car. I knew if I didn't do something very fast they were going to steal my gear or kick the shit out of me then take it. I drew my gun and yelled at them in my most commanding voice I could muster, "GET OUT OF HERE, GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE". As soon as I did this they tried to shield themselves and get back in the car and drive off as fast as they could.

I stood there for a moment watching them speed off down the road still trying to figure out what just happened as it was so fast. I put my gun away and let my camera take the final frames before I packed everything up and got out of there. I'm very glad that this whole incident didn't end with me having to shoot anybody. So everyone be careful when shooting down in LA as you never know when your life or your gear might be in jeopardy.

The picture I posted is the best picture I have of the car the idiots were driving. It was a long exposure timelapse and that's why its all blurry.

I´ve worked with cash in transit for 10 years in the 90s and beginning of 00s - got robbed twice in my line of work and also twice as a civillian. The best thing that ever could have happened in my line of work back then was that we were unarmed and that i never carried a gun in private either.
I´d probably been dead by now if I had been armed.
Later on I also worked as an armed guard at a high security facility, pulled my gun several times when going on alarms and almost accidentally shot an employee who came around a corner once.
Now to my point.

Is a camera worth dying for? Is anything material worth dying or kiling for? What would you have done if those guys had pulled guns on you? -You´d been on ice by now i can guarantee you.
What if you had accidentally shot one of them and got charged with murder? Do you have a permission to carry a concealed weapon and even if you do; why do you walk around armed in the first place? That´s just plain stupid.

Get an insurance instead of a gun.
