  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just some fun with wood

Cool commercial. Although it's ironic how many trees they had to kill to market their earthy cell phone.

Oh, please. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool environmentalist, but that thing on your shoulder in your avatar has more environmental impact than the three trees killed to make that fancy xylophone.

They are marketing this phone as some sort of harmony between technology and nature, hence the irony that they destroyed trees to make the commercial.

RED markets their products as basically revolutionary weapons, so I don't understand the irony of the camera having an environmental impact. Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying. Or was that just a clever personal shot at me?

I fail to see any irony here. The primary/rear shell of the phone is made of wood...

Sorry Julio, nothing personal intended. I'm just tired of people sniping.

It was a beautiful piece of work. Can't we leave it at that?

In fact, something is almost always destroyed in the creation of something else. If we're going to be creative artists, we're gonna break some stuff.

And it is really nice sound. Petr, do you have any idea how much of it is location sound?

Nice concept, beautifully executed. A little longer than it had to be, maybe. Nice focus pulls with almost no breathing! And the sound is amazing. Love the dear shot.

I love this genre of long pieces that become more wondrous the longer they go on. This reminds me of Honda Cog, of course, but it also of the Johnny Walker piece from a year or two ago. I find I "get the point" after about 40 seconds, but then as it continues, the experience takes over and the experience is better.

I put it on the big speakers this morning, and I'm willing to believe that the sound is mostly location sound. But with some really top-shelf mastering. I'm not really a sound guy, so I could be wrong about that, but its pretty believable.

EDIT: Richard, it couldn't really have been much shorter. Bach didn't write it shorter. :-)

I know THAT Dave. And you're right of course. I've been doing :30s and :60s for toooooo many years. Cut to the chase is too ingrained in me. I once edited "She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" by the Beatles to :60 - and practically no one knew. I'd play it for them and then ask, "Well?" And they'd reply "Well what?"

So yes, when I'm not in my edit mode, it's fine.
