+1 LOL. I wanted to post a similar reply when I first read this thread, but I didn't. Thank you for bringing a realistic view in here. =)
I am currently working on a feature length production of "Time Ninjas of Pirate Island" once Epic gets here the last piece will have fallen into place. The entire thing takes place on my driveway. It's very big. I'm exited.
If you have a way to create this type of cinematography without the considerable support system present on a major production then I'm envious. Would the shots have been exactly the same without he money to obtain locations, gaffer, PA's, time, etc?
It's not always about budget....I've created beautiful imagery with zero dollars before, haven't you? I'm not attacking you, just not sure I like the way you extinguished Michael's enthusiasm with your post. Or did I read that wrong?
Posting the exception to the rule is never going to prove your point.
If Michael had written something like, "I can't wait to start shooting some amazing footage with my Scarlet!" I wouldn't have noticed anything strange or unrealistic about his post.
But, that's not what he said. He wrote, "Can't wait to recreate those beautiful shots with my scarlet!!!" Perhaps I'm just being picky about his grammar, but to me, it sounds like he wants to recreate shots he's seen in the film. Which, of course, is totally unrealistic.
I apologize if I'm reading this wrong, but I understand things as I see them. And from the viewpoint of standard English grammar, his post sounds a little strange.
I admit that Scarlet and EPIC are both devices capable of creating truly magical images. But, wanting to recreate shots from a film with a $100M budget is a little ridiculous.
I'm not saying you can't create an awesome film that's better than GWDT with an even smaller budget. What I am saying though is don't try to recreate scenes from an existing film and expect to get identical results.
Along the lines of extinguishing enthusiasm... If you know what Scarlet can offer, and are looking at it from a realistic viewpoint, there's no need to lose enthusiasm. That camera really is a magical device.
Just my opinion here...
Are you for real? It was the grammar that made you do it? Sheesh!! You gotta be so careful round here.....

Brian..am not sure what you mean ?..Why would it be unrealistic to recreate shots from the film..?
Copying old masters and analysis of their work has a long tradition in art. Basically it's how you learn
and improve your skills.
Matter of fact it's fairly common exercise in film schools to re-interpret scenes with actors or recreate photographic
looks from movies. Heard of one where someone shot people in Koreatown and Chinatown and then superimposed
over that a bunch of modern architecture and fluorescent and neon lights on a rainy and foggy night and wound
up with quite a convincing blade runner look.
Okay, I suppose I am being too picky.
@ Michael Pyon
I apologize for writing what I did. It was not my intention to extinguish your enthusiasm. I'm sorry about being so picky.
@ Matthew Scott
Thank you for helping me to realize that I was indeed being too picky. I personally care a lot about grammar. But, I read into someone else's post more than I should have. I hope you don't think I'm a mean person now.![]()
