  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just placed my order...

To make some super cheap, good quality, wireless lapels. I have a few 2.4ghz Lossless audio modules lying about, so i thought id put them to use :)

"You've come this far, why not go a little further" random film quote from something.

I'm running two Seinheisser Lapel mics direct into my Scarlet. Works a treat and less fiddly. Perfect audio for my needs and knowing that when budgets start rolling in, it's off to my nearest sound guy to do recording for me off cam.

Total cost was about $1200 for the pair and I'm thankful that handles all of my audio needs without many hitches. I'd think about your two zooms, seems a little too much for what you are trying to do...then again, if you pull it off, would love to see the setup.

Well done on your purchase. When I was your age, the closest I got to making films was the multitude of posters hanging on my wall. Short Circuit was the coolest thing when I was 15.

True, but im at the max. The setup right now is about $300. So $1200 is a little more than im up for haha. Thanks anyway.

Yeah ill post some stuff up about quality etc later.

Short circuit is pretty cool tho xD

Good for you, Timothy! The tech is ready to achieve what you want, at a (fairly) small price, get the information you need easily and make yourself known and connected even easier.
I remember shooting my own first movies on crappy video8 or super8... so this is a great time to live in. Exciting times for a young filmmaker! Put your Scarlet to good use, what I believe you will.
Still crazy awesome that you can get a Scarlet at your young age. I'm happy for you!

Looking forward to seeing your work with your very own Scarlet.

All the best!
Patrick

You...lucky you. I would only think of concepts, stories and imagery in my mind when I was 15.
And please share the knowledge and the camera to your friends and fellow film makers to make new and great stuff.

Good on you. Best of Luck.

Also on the list (not from red) is:

Shotgun Mic
Crane/Jib
Dolly
Steadicam, arm, vest (cheaper fly-cam and proaim one)
Shoulder mount rig
Follow focus
Mattebox

Let us know, what exactly you got for yourself. :)

Sorry, dont follow?.....

Also consider

1. RAID storage (faster, safer) - as you're going to need > 2GB/Min depending on your compression ratio.

2. A system to backup from the RAID and take to location like safety deposit box (files don't exist if they aren't stored in two separate places)

3. What software are you editing with?

4. Lanyard for the REDmote (be sad to drop it) http://www.madlyfins.com/product.php?id_product=18

5. Red capacitive stylus (no sense smudging the LCD with your fingers) http://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-Capac...&keywords=BoxWave+Capacitive+Stylus+for+Apple

6. SSD for your computer to speed up cache files

BTW - did you look at the USB3 Mini? http://www.red.com/store/products/red-station-redmag-18-mini-usb3

Good luck with your new camera!!!

On the redmote lanyard side of things, i found it was cheaper to get this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1Pcs-1-4...446?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0afda42e
or this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1pcs-1-4...381?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c28df615d
and the official red lanyard...

Timothy, I meant which system or makes of the list. Dolly, jib etc.

Ahh ok:
Mic: SUPER cheap HTDZ HT-81 ($30 :O ) but i have a NTG2. Im just using this as i can see a lot of shots where i dont want a really good mic there. Besides, i have used one and it sounds better than the Rode videomic.
Crane: Proaim 14f Crane
Dolly: Ill make this myself
Steadicam: MAGIC ARM-FM and Flycam 6000 (Cheap setup, but have seen some AMAZING work on this and the scarlet)
Shoulder mount: eBay one...
Follow focus: ^ same, ebay coz im a cheapskate xD
mattebox: Again, ebay.

So not too exciting, but im planning to do a review on how the cheapo gear holds up....

Congrats, Timothy. I have a lot to be grateful for from the guys at RED. Especially Jarred.

10 months ago I got my EPIC, having only been in the USA and Canada. I've now been to 10 countries and 5 continents with my EPIC. Just today, I was thinking "How in the world is an Oklahoma boy in Africa shooting with the Crown Prince of Dubai with literally pretty much every piece of gear I could wish for.

Thanks RED for opening a number of doors for many people's careers...

Cripes. When I was that age, the best I could get was a VHS camcorder. Love to see young folks conquer their dreams with the nuclear weapon that is the Scarlet.
