Just ordered the new 27inch Imac fully loaded...

3.4ghz Quad Core i7
8gigs of ram from Apple but ordered 32gigs from OWC
768 gig SSD
GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

Gonna run external raid through lacie thunderbolt - Esata hub for a while till prices come down on Thunderbolt Raids.

Hoping this system can show my old Mac Pro up and make editing a little bit faster.

Will post full review and opinion once I receive it.

I am very interested in what you find out. Test it with FCPX please!

Buy one or two more and the ability to share Thunderbolt would be icing :)

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on a similar set up (1TB Fusion since the SSD's are so ridiculously expensive).

The long wait on the shipping is stopping me because it would be an impulse and an impulse with a 3 week wait isn't much of an impulse buy :D

i've been using a 2011 I5 27-inch imac with 32 gigs of ram, added a 256 ssd along with the internal stock 1tb drive. been using FCP Studio and FCP X along with a 3 tb 7200 rpm thunderbolt seagate drive and that kitty purrs. so i'm sure you will be beyond fine with your config with red footage.

best buy has 12 core mac pros for 2500 dollars right now fyi. i'm conflicted on what to buy if i needed a new machine, but an iMac wouldn't be it. either i'd get a mobile thing, or a tower...though with no hopes of thunderbolt coming to it, maybe you guys are in fact going the right way...

New iMac looks AWESOME!

Can you let us know how it does with Da Vinci Resolve with Red footage? I have a client who I was leaning towards recommending a 12-core Mac Pro because it's a known quantity but the 2GB cuda card in the iMac is mighty tempting.

BTW, I would say get a G-raid with thunderbolt. 4tb one is nearly 300MB/s. Not a Promise R1 fo sho but you can also stripe two and get nearly 600MB/s.

iMac arrived today and man is it zippy. I've just messed around with it so far but plan on doing some editing and RCX stuff tonight.

The SSD has to be the biggest improvement. When you turn it on its litteraly ready to run 5seconds later. Apps like FCPX open instantly. Overall really impressed.

The new screen that claims less glare is really a lot better compared to older imac. Almost no glare and man is this bright! Everything looks so much better.

Mark did get the SSD?

No I just got the 1TB standard HDD (because I need to run a windows partition on the computer). I'm hurting a bit for the lack of SSD (I have an SSD boot drive in my old Mac Pro and it's lightening fast for start-up). I'll almost certainly switch out the HDD for a 750GB-1TB SSD when they become available at more reasonable prices in the next year.

What I'm really hurting for at the moment is RAID storage, I want a decent 4-bay USB3 or Thunderbolt enclosure - but there's NOTHING on the market. It's a real pain.

macmall has refurb pegasus right now....R4 and R6....they are the best....

So I'm playing 4k files in RCX at 1/2 Res in Real Time. A slight delay at full res.

FCPX is zippy! Absolute no delay or lag like I had when working with 4k on Mac Pro.

Sorry caught up in an edit but will do some actual speed tests soon.

Only bottle neck I see right now with this system is my Raid is Esata into Lacie Thunderbolt hub. But everything is working smooth so far.

Overall system is way more responsive.
