  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just moved to Build 30. . . now my cards are spontaneously unmounting for no reason!

Justin and Stephan, can you please e-mail me at stuart@red.com

Let's get your camera LOG files and that may tell us what's happening.

I'm back to Build 20. I cannot make Build 21 give me anything but a totally black screen with frame lines (playing with the look did nothing. . . still totally black), and Build 30 has nothing but card dismounts.

How does one pull a log file to send to RED? I'd really like to get Build 30 up and working on our camera, but it isn't going to happen until RED can identify the root of the CF unmounting problem.

Stephen

Hi Stephen, do you have upgraded 16GB cards? from Red.

Maybe there is a problem

best regards
Robert

Hey there, Robert. . .

I actually HAVE one 16 gig CF card somewhere, but I lost it. I'm just using the old original 8 gig cards.

I was unable to eliminate the black screen of death on Build 21 by using the LOOK buttons. Nothing worked. Never did get video picture of any sort.

I'm going to do the log function and send that to RED. I tried Build 30 again, and I got the same issue exactly as before. It just continually unmounts my card spontaneously. Or, rather, says that I removed my card (but I didn't). It will do this in the middle of record, in playback, or anytime, really. It does it continuously.

Anyway, I'll try to send in the log file later today. We've got company in from out-of-town, as our movie opens in KC tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone.

Stephen

I have to say, REDites, that Stuart has been very supportive of my plight and has made several suggestions. Unfortunately, as our film is opening here in KC tomorrow, I don't have time to check into them right now, but I will do so later and post a report. It could something as simple as a GPI trigger needs to be turned off. We'll see.

All I know is that I'd love to try Build 30. . . and I sure wish RED would send me the email about the M-X upgrade for #791.

FYI I am having the same problem, except my hard drives do the same thing and I am using the Birger mount. I downgraded to build 21. Did a black shading calibration to get rid of the black screen. I am in Africa and very busy so no time to test send log files etc. I will follow this thread carefully, hopefully there is a solution soon, I would like to take advantage of Build 30.

Sound like a GPIO setting might be conflicting with the Birger mount, as those having this problem all state they're using the Birger. It seems that this is the point in time where you start looking for options to turn off in the camera to see if they are causing it.

Possible solution?

I have only done limited testing, but I believe I have a solution (partially suggested to me by someone else on this forum) to the Birger unmount problem.

Here's what I did:

1. Pull the Birger power cable from the back of the camera.

2. Start the camera.

3. ONLY when the camera is fully up and initialized, plug the Birger power cable back into the camera.

Using this procedure, and on Build 30, I have so far been unable to get a card to incorrectly unmount. I am able to use the Impero to start and stop recording. (I have nothing plugged into the A-port; I use on the bottom, B-port, which is set for GPIO "record").

I have sent a number of log files to Stuart at RED and I assume that they are looking into this problem, but, so far, knock on wood, this seems to be working for me. I believe that there is something in the starting algorithm with Build 30 that does not like the Birger mount to be plugged into the back of the camera.

I'd love to know if others have success with this same procedure.

Thanks very much.

Stephen

Build 30 issues

Build 30 issues

I have been away from this thread from awhile, but to Stephen and Stuart I will try to get a log and send it out. Overall my camera has been fairly buggy in build 30 release with the Birger. I have shot music videos 3 times in the last two weeks and have had to restart 1-3 times each day for some reason or another. If I am at 2k overcranking and switch back to 4k without turning off varispeed then my camera will sometimes freeze. BTW I know myself and a lot of others would like it to be easier to switch overcranking and undercranking on the epic. Part of it is menu design and part of it is how many twists it takes and part of it is button layout but all of it could be easier and more simple for such a common thing (especially on music videos.) Thanks.
