  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just moved to Build 30. . . now my cards are spontaneously unmounting for no reason!

Hi all. . .

I just moved from Build 20 to Build 30 and it all worked perfectly for all of 30 minutes. Now I'm getting this crazy "you didn't properly remove your flash card" messages. Except that I didn't unmount my card at all!

This is clearly a Build 30 problem. I have never had this problem even once in my two years of owning this camera. Now I've had it happen three times in less than an hour. Has anyone else experienced this? What can be done about it. I just hope it isn't killing my cards completely. I have yet to check on that score.

There's a reason I stay behind the curve.

An update. . .

Basically, my camera is dead. It turns on. It works really fine, just so long as I don't want to record anything. As soon as I do, it records for a few seconds, then NaN shows up on my media counter. Then the camera gives me the "unmounted" message. And then I can't play whatever was recorded to the card.

And, like I said, no issues for two years until 20 minutes after switching to Build 30.

I'd try to upload my old Build 20 again, but I didn't bother to copy it. Anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on here?

Stephen

Stephen, If you have a 12v aux lemo plugged in, that may be your issue... I have noticed this same effect with cards and drives...

Quick fix is just don't leave it plugged in for long durations.

Did you reformat the media under build 30? All media has to be reformatted in that build before using it. I ran into the camera not liking media formatted on build 20 before, a format fixed it. Not sure if it will help here.

Otherwise, a build reinstall is the next thing I would do. Actually, I might try that first. Maybe installing build 30 from an SD card would be a smart move as well. That's not likely causing any problems but it never hurts.

Hey, Nathan. . . what are you saying? I can't use the 12V Lemo? That's my Birger mount cable.

Anyone have an old Build 20 laying around?

No, you can use your Birger mount, thats what I'm rocking as well. Try booting without the lemo plugged in. Then when you need to adjust your exposure plug it back in, when done, remove it.

Geez, that's convenient. How, exactly are you supposed to control focus with your Birger unplugged? This is incredible.

CARDS UNMOUNT in BUILD 30

CARDS UNMOUNT in BUILD 30

I'm having the EXACT same issue Stephen. RED are you guys hearing this? I've never had anything similar to this happen with my camera but I am getting the identical unmounting issue with the 30 Release Build. PLEASE FIX. I also have a Birger and really need it to be operational. Drives seem to work fine. I believe it's only the cards that are messed up.

If you experience a black output (I'm referring to the problem that someone reports after the switch back to Build 20/21), try resetting the look:

Just my two.

Hey, Justin. . . join the party.

:-)

Not much fun, but at least there are the two of us and we both know we're not nuts!

Do you know how to file a log report with RED? Having never had a single issue with this camera before (except for overheating in hot environments), I don't know how to do it. Obviously, we'd both like to join the Build 30 party, but it just ain't happening for us just yet.

Thanks for the comment. I KNOW it is a Build 30 issue. You did, too.

Stephen

I'm back to Build 20. I cannot make Build 21 give me anything but a totally black screen with frame lines (playing with the look did nothing. . . still totally black), and Build 30 has nothing but card dismounts.

How does one pull a log file to send to RED? I'd really like to get Build 30 up and working on our camera, but it isn't going to happen until RED can identify the root of the CF unmounting problem.

Stephen

Wow.

This is pretty freaky. I have a very close serial number 758 and I have had no issues at all with build 21, 30 etc.

Have you tried a different CF card?

In both build 20 and 30, you'll find the "write log" command under the SYSTEM menu-- SYSTEM > SETUP > WRITE LOG

This is from the Build 20 manual:
"Select to write camera’s .LOG file to REDFLASH CF card or RED-DRIVE or RED-RAM magazine. The .LOG file is a diagnostic tool that can assist RED with camera troubleshooting. After capture, upload the .LOG file to the RED customer service team contactable at www.RED.com/support."

I'm getting a black screen with all the frame guides just fine, I booted up today and all I get is a Black screen with frame guides and info.

Going to try to roll back to earlier build.

First problem I've had since I got the camera. Rolling back to earlier build now to see if I can make my camera work, if anyone solves this please email me.

Thanks. Will post if I solve the problem.

Stephen, if you've got #791, is it possible you got it with the old CF module, and never had it replaced with the updated one?

On a much later camera (6,000s) all the release builds including 30 have worked perfectly with the Birger mount, booting with the Lemo cable connecting.

Was going to roll back but I tried this first.

What's up, never had this problem before, but Video Look Clear Solved it. Thanks for the posting, very glad that it wasn't something else.

Best,

I stayed on Build 30. Testing today to make sure all is well.
