Are any of you using these hard drive cases? Maybe they are well known but I just found out about it. http://www.hudzee.com

I just picked up a box and have to admit they are way more handy than I thought they would be. My initial purchase was for short term backups. But now that I have them, I'm also using them for new unused hard drives.

Just trying to spread the love in case nobody has heard about it.

Voyager is working great here. I also have Wiebtech's old Combo dock and a couple of the basic drive enclosures. But the Voyager is the fastest to load up and start transferring. It's only fault is that the drive sits in there a little precariously. But overall a very good solution.

Weibtech also sells drive cases I believe, but the Hudzees are pretty cheap, so it's tempting.

CalDigit is nice as well.

Be careful out there

Be careful out there

These drop in drive bays are cool, I own a couple.

But do be careful.

I hadn't lost a hard drive in better than five years, and I've lost two in the last six months before I started taping these things down.

They are top heavy, the bases aren't that big, and have a lot of cables attached. People are surprisingly clumsy around other peoples gear.

Sigh...

I saw the hudzee, but it seemed a little spendy for injection molded plastic. I was afraid they'd turn out to be crap.

If anybody actually has any direct experience with these I'd love an opinion.

The hudzee's are worth every penny imo. I have a bunch now and they are nicely built.

We use vantec nexstar drive bays here but I don't really recommend them. The power button on the front is a bit cheap.

Yes, this is true and I actually don't use the Voyager too much on set for that very reason. In the comfort of my home studio, no problems. On a set where there is a chance of someone bumping into the backup station, not so good.

Funny. I've had nothing but bad luck with these. Had 4 of them die on me since february. I love both the Seagate and Hitachi 1TB drives, though. I'm not buying any more 1.5TB HDD's... Hopefully 2GB will arrive soon and will be a bit better.

The 1.5TBs had some notorious issues that I believe were linked to firmware. I have one and it does behave strangely sometimes. The 1TB drives were fine.

yup. those Seagate 1.5s SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK!

3 PLATTER HITACHI all the way!

I use regular old VHS tape boxes. They do the job and are much cheaper than the Hudzee.
I know I pinching pennies here, but think of all the plastic trees you'll save.
