Hello, All. I just bought myself a RED Scarlet and my first post is going to be in regards to security.

I was thinking of a good GPS tracking device. But was curious how other owners have protected their investment.

I do have production insurance as well.

I dont live in a bad area, but anything is possible. Thanks in advance.

I'd be interested in knowing what other people are doing as well. If you own a home and you're robbed, I think your homeowners policy would cover you. But there are many other scenarios where you could have it stolen (and production insurance wouldn't cover you).

The insurance I have covers theft, including from an unlocked vehicle. Granted, if that were to happen, I'd be without camera and gear for a bit while everything got sorted. But at least there's a level of coverage. I didn't take my Scarlet out of my house until it was insured.

I'd be careful about relying on a homeowner's insurance policy. Because I use my Scarlet and other camera equipment to generate income, apparently most home insurance policies don't cover it, at least in Australia.

Fullsail a very large film school based in orlando uses GPS tracking devices on all their camera equipment. It seems to be bolted or welded on or something lol.
I was thinking more of a gps device in the case, and maybe a dummy lens housing or something with a tracker inside. Sounds silly but ive heard stories of people getting robbed when going to get a gig in places like LA and NY

Your two best options are insurance (film and production specific) and vigiliance in handling and storing.

I'll add that having an alarm system with posted signs, along with a big dog are also helpful.

I have 150 pound Cane Corso as a studio mascot. Yes thats him to the left.

Same applies here in Switzerland. If you generate income with your equipment homeowner's insurance won't cover!

My trick: NLYCA ;-) (Never leave your camera alone)

Well i already have production insurance. I just stand the idea of someone having my camera for free that i worked so hard for lol. Me and my silly principles.
