Just received the Standard OLPF for my Epic Dragon. I already have the STO & LLO and have used both, but I'm starting this thread to hopefully hear from others about their experiences - new and old with this new Standard OLPF. Speculations are OK, but real world experience is better.

If you have installed and used the Standard OLPF, please share your experience and insights, as will I when I can put it in and take it for a spin.

Yeah bump!

I think it would be especially useful if using a Raven as a B-Cam to have the same color response from both cameras...

In the other scenarios it seems a not so useful middle ground...opinions?? ;)

I have been shooting with it for the last week and loving it. Skin tones and colors are amazing and it's clean to 1600.

I did get a red dot pattern flare during a shoot but haven't had time to really test.

Tests would be welcome. STH OPLF I would rate 320-400 and LLO I would rate at 800asa. I am keen to hear what others think but from an initial look I am veering to 500-640asa.

I don't have one yet, but it seems that it would be the best for the every day run and gun type shoot.

I put it in an Epic-D and haven't felt the need to take it out yet (except to do eventual comparison tests).

Frankly, unless going for an in camera look w/ the Kodak looking STH or KipperTies, or shooting in an unlit cave,
most are best served with the Satandard OLPF (especially if max flexibility in POST is desired).

Compared to STH:
Its more neutral, seems about 2/3~1stop brighter(unscientific), has good color, and is super clean

Compared to Low-L:
Its more neutral, seems about 1/6~1/3 stop darker(unscientific), much better color, w/ a touch more... character/texture

Any update would really be great, specially the STANDARD OLPF with EPIC DRAGON.

I'm bringing one in to complete my set of RED OLPF's. I've really settled on the STH and have liked it from day 1. DEB solved every problem I had with it and I rate it at 800 or 1000 regularly. The LLO has it's place. I'm curious to see where the standard will fit into the equation.

I do like the color subtle color of the STH best as I find that it "grades a bit better" (to my taste) than the LLO and it finishes a bit more filmic and a bit less videoish than the LLO. Interested to see what the STANDARD will bring, probably a lot less low pass so a bit less highlight love.

Thanks Matt, that is great for Weapon users, but i was wondering using the standard with Epic Dragon. Basically what i really would love to know is which of the three has the best looking skin tone, and i don't mean "ACCURATE COLORS" i mean, beautiful skin tone, the ones that the Talent will look better, with out any grading, right out the camera. I did a test where i filmed a person with a black background to only concentrate on skin tones. I shot with both ST and LL. Later I showed it to some clients ( all of them are creative directors in advertising companies ) and asked them which one they liked, all of them preferred the Low Light. Non of them understand technical things, they only looked at what the perceived was a better looking image. Have you guys tried this? BTW, i didn't explain anything about OLPF to them, just asked them which they like best.

Shane's test is very helpful.
If you want good skin tones - you are going to have to grade it - with any camera.

Hey Marcus

Can you please tell me more about the Red Dot pattern?

Is this pretty much the same as what we see on the LLO? Or is it less pronounced ?

The STH is amazing when shooting into the sun or some other bright point source.

Thank you

I believe Phil compared OLPFS and red dot pattern in his Weapon Test/Notes.

I really wish I could tell you more definitively, but (un)fortanetely I've been shooting non stop and haven't had time to really test. However, on one of my shoots I accidentally caught the sun on a flare and got about half of the red orb pattern (totally unscientific) that I would have gotten from the LLO.

I totally agree with you about the STH. Still my favorite look out of the camera.

When this year finally winds down I will do a full test between the 3 main OLPFS.

In Shane Hurlbut's test there's a clear green tint int he Skintone OLPF and I wonder if he adjusted the tint it wouldn't look quite a bit better?

The white of the focus chart looks much more magenta in the Standard OLPF image, so I don't feel the were both whitebalanced properly. If the skintone OLPF has a green tint that you can easily remove by setting tint to say -3 in camera for every shot its not really an issue.

Love the standard OLPF, cleaner black, accurate colour and smooth highlights....won't be leaving my camera anytime soon!
