  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Joining the RED side!

Burlt damn is that small car powerful. They are practicaly getting a better camera than the one that shot A Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for 1/10th of the price. Its as capable as a MX Red One in frame rates but doubles it in frame rates, sensitivity and dynamic range. Insane, for 9900 USD!

yeah man. 4.5k is more than enough for a very high quality image. The price is good...

Get a raven to learn the craft of using RED camera since the cost is much lower compared to Epic. With identical workflow and process, one can easily upgrade to 6/8k when the opportunity arises in future. Learn to drive using a small car first before jumping into a supercar.

Totally agree. Coming from DSLRs, the "striped down" RAVEN is still light years from what I am used too.

Yes I am very interested in the Raven, what I really like about Red is they seem committed to their customer base, actively communicate whats happening in the company and its direction. I was a keen Panasonic user with 2x AF102 but the company just dropped the line with it seems very little explanation or care. The accessories that you buy with a Raven can be re-used on on upgraded bodies as you hopefully grow as a cinematographer. If the company decides to change direction it seems from what I have read so far is that they will explain why. I am torn with Black Magic. As an Australian I would like to support the company that does its R&D in Melbourne. But I feel I could end up in a similar situation with owning a Panasonic. A good value for money camera but no one hires you because it has a dodgy reputation? While a reputation for certain cameras can often be unfair - you don't have to do much explaining about the potential benefits of shooting with a Red.

Heard quite a few bad feedbacks on BM regarding their camera quality control and services. Well, for that kind of price I'm not surprised that their QC is not on the same level as the other big players. For hobby i will consider BM but if I'm charging client for commercial works, I want to be very sure that the equipment are reliable 99.99% of the time and with responsive customer service when things go wrong. I'm a long time Canon supporter with C series cameras and love not only their camera quality and reliability but also their service centre service. I'm v confident that whatever happens to my gears, Canon will be able to get them fixed up fast. BM simply cannot give me the peace of mind on their cameras reliability. Not sure about RED but having tried their cameras, they seemed sturdy and reliable. Although not exactly cheap after adding up all the necessary parts and media, getting a Raven is a good testing ground for a start into the RED world and I guess that's what the company wants too, to bring more beginner users into their system at a low cost & risk.

I also just put my preorder in for the raven. Very excited to get this guy a go! Looks like it's going to be one of the best and blow away all other cameras at that price!

Well said. Red always seemed to be outside of the realm of possibility for the longest time. I'm a Sony guy and still love what I get with my a7sii, but was always feeling like if I'm presenting myself as a professional cinematographer I should show up with professional equipment and not a Mirrorless camera. Thanks Red for making it possible.
