  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

johnnie walker commercial

Too bad that filmdetail.com page mentions blocking the ad out with a small HDV cam but neglects to mention it was shot on a Red One.

Love it. Love the fact that it's subtitled... hehe.

The Steadicam operator was George Richmond, who was sat on the back of a rickshaw being pulled up and down the hill by two grips.

How did this work, sound wise?

Bravo!

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Robert Carlyle's timing was fantastic. Not to mention that he never dropped a line in four minutes. Very nice. One take, but how many one takes did it take?

There were piles of fresh dirt in the road where they had to fill in potholes so the rickshaw/steadicam rig didn't have a bounce.

in the interview it said it was done in 40 takes, but only the last few takes, were FULL takes

Perfectly done, not to mention that Robert Carlyle is the only person I can possibly imagine delivering a 5 minute continuous walk and talk about the glorious epic of Johnnie Walker.

The most impressive part to me is that at the end he didn't burst into a grand smile of relief after getting through the 40th take perfectly. I wonder who handled the subtle zooms in the shot that were so vital for keeping the right framing to time the reveals of the props. Nothing screws with the brain more of a Steadicam Op than to have someone remotely float a zoom on his camera.

really good job Steve!! thanks for sharing, this was enjoyable, i now have it linked on my facebook wall

The only thing I can think of is perhaps they had a small teleprompter hooked up. It looked like at times he might be looking down at something for lines.

Then again, he could have been just looking down to make sure he didn't trip on anything and perhaps he did this all from memory and nailed it. I'd rather think it was the latter. Very impressive either way. Timing was great, very cool concept. Makes me want to get some Johnny Walker and I don't even drink whiskey.
