This is a total shot in the dark, but would anyone here by chance have any set experience working with the late John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Planes Trains & Automobiles, Ferris Bueller)? He is my favorite filmmaker and I am always trying to find new stories about him, his worth ethic, etc.

I seem to recall there was a biography or a documentary about him somewhere. Yes, Don't You Forget About Me, a 2009 documentary:

Hughes was a terrific filmmaker, but I think he was stymied by several flop films in a row, coupled with the death of longtime friend John Candy. Amazingly, Hughes unexpectedly dropped dead before the documentary crew was ever able to meet him, which is sad and ironic. I think Hughes was not anxious to get back into the limelight, and deliberately chose to just retire and stay out of sight; he had made enough money that he never needed to work again, and I think he had no interest in making films to appeal to audiences he didn't know or couldn't empathize with.

I have that film on DVD, along with all of hughes films. I really think someone should make an actual biography doc about him that goes more in depth on him and not filmmakers trying to find him.

I think he was a fairly wealthy guy who didn't want people to do a film on him, so that was one reason the film went in the direction it did.

I did a film with Judd Nelson once and he told some good stories about the Breakfast Club.

Apparently once the film was cast, but before they started shooting, Hughes mentioned an earlier draft of the script. The young cast didn't realize that there were earlier drafts of the script and asked to see them. Hughes said what the hell and let them read the earlier drafts. In the scene where everyone is confessing their sins, they all chose those pieces from earlier drafts that were not supposed to be in the film.

Judd also mentioned that that film totally ruined him because the next piece he worked on, he expected this totally collaborative effort where what he said was taken seriously based on his experience with Hughes, and everybody looked at him like he had 6 heads and told him to shut the fuck up ;-)
