Joe Carnahan revealed that he hopes to shoot his upcoming Pablo Escobar biopic "Killing Pablo" on the new Red HD camera system: "I really want to do a great deal of KP on the Red or another digital format that gives me the same kind of freedom that that particular system grants. We took it out in Sacramento and shot all over the place with it and I was just amazed on how simple the set-up was. Now I don't think the Red can handle low light like the Genesis. Not yet at least. I think around 1000asa was where we were most comfortable with it. BUT, in its handheld configuration, it's probably 10-12lbs lighter than the Genesis and that's huge. It's ease of use is unsurpassed as far as I'm concerned."

A quote is only as valuable as its source...

What is "Red HD camera system"?
I know only Red 4K camera system.
:sarcasm:

The Semantics game is neither interesting or creative. this guy is a story teller not a propeller head. I'm sure all he's interested in is the quality of the images not the spec sheet

HD has come to mean something specific (digital images either 1080 or 720 pixels high, with a 16x9 aspect), but in its most general sense it just means an image with more pixels than SD...

I don't really see the difference between HD and Digital Cinema; both use a linear response sensor to record a digital image. Is the distinction in the gamma applied to the image? (HD using Rec709, and DCin using - linear/log).

At the end of the day, I see chemical and digital as the two camps (analogue video having dropped out of the race...).

Quite true. But, I can much more readily get my hands on a RED!

I thought Pablo Escobar story was already been shot in "Medellin" with Vincent Chase starring...

what's in a name

what's in a name

How about 4 categories

"HD camera" anything from EX1 to f900R

"Ultra HD Camera"; i.e. Olympus 4k camera NHK 7k camera for live TV

"2K cinema camera"; 35mm 16mm or 2/3 inch size sensor with 4:4:4 or RAW recording capability.

"4k cinema camera"; 35mm or larger size 4k sensor, regardless of recording format

This gives scope to differentiate and accommodate any future 6k camera.
