  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jobs Reportedly Says Final Cut Update 'Coming Early Next Year'

Wait you think an economic crisis is just hitting now? Where have you been?

-Noah

Noah,

I know it very well, "economic stress dips to 16-month low",...and all stories like this...

But what I wanted to point out is that all the new products from those respectful companies will be mostly announcements of cheaper ones first...

...just because of immediate need of cash to overturn this financial difficulties period...

However if you run any business you should know probably what you have to do first...

i really hope for apple that the new fcp has dpx support, can export in 10 bit rgb, has no gamma issues,
has usuable media managment, can talk with other apps like protools.

Waiting... but already looking for a new "road"

Jobs wants something seriously "awesome" for the coming Mac AppStore.

I don't know if they want to use FCP as a "killer app" for the MacAppStore, but using it for plug-ins and other "related" apps is likely the target.

As far as working with RED is concerned I think it's too late for apple now. Most of the editors i know that work with R3Ds have moved on to other apps like Vegas, Premiere Pro or Avid.

I have almost regretted investing in an apple computer 2 years ago under the impression that FCP would lead the way. It turned out the opposite has happened. :-(

Also, new apps in the horizon like Storm or Lightworks will probably lessen whatever importance was left to FCP for RED workflows.

I have moved back to Vegas on Windows 7 lately and never looked back. The mac is collecting dust at the moment.

Miltos,

sorry but your observation it looks as you were "buried" for a long time in sort of "Ancient Greek" media world

I wouldn't give up on Apple just yet.
While other platforms seam to have as many applications and pros as Apple's I would choose a Mac over a PC as a long term worry free work horse any day.

Also (call me naive but) it’s no secret that it was the professional market that kept Apple going through the tough times (mid 90's early 2000s). Not saying they owe us but I hope they have some sense of loyalty.
As business goes consumers are trend followers where as professionals follow necessity. It would make sense to support a core group of reliable customers. There still are a significant percentage of Apple users that are professionals in need of: stable media reconnection, 64bit and/or at least NLE GPU processing, native file support (yeah RITE!!!). To warrant a FCS update with these and many more changes.

If he has so have I and the rest of us whom notice that FCS has not been leading anything. to the contrary it lacks Many Critical and Must have features. Plus It is not even 64bit. I remember Steve Bragging How Wonderful 64bit Apps would be... Enough Said. Because I would probably buy the next upgrade. But only if it excels CS5. if not I will just stay with Adobe and upgrade to CS6 which should be Awesome.

So what was so amazing about FCP during the last 18 months that i missed? Obviously you must have observed something amazing!

Sounds about right... This is about when I expected it, but for some reason people were swearing it would come out at NAB early this year (only nine months after FCS3 was released) which was far too early in the product cycle...

I actually thought it might come a bit later but I'm not complaining.
I sent my list of desired features and improvements to Apple a while ago.

While I'm not expecting upgrades on the scale of the unified super app that's been rumored I do expect the needed improvements in RED support, some considerable updates in Color, and overall stability.

Again, we'll see.

Brian
