  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

gotta love craislist for stuff like this. On top of wanting everything for cheap or free, they want to see a resume and reel of 20 years of work to see if your good enough to work for free.

It's getting worse everyday: problem is - someone with a RED
will respond and do it - and probably do a great job.

I stopped responding to Craigslist - as should any professional
who makes a living at production.
 
shit that is less then a 1 day rental for just the body alone!! and they expect a DP lenses and all the RED stuff you gotta have to shoot!? are you kidding!?

The only thing left out of that Craiglist post is namedropping some A list star who won't actually BE at the shoot but is somehow connected to it. :bleh: :bleh:

The only thing worse than people who post things like this are the people who respond to them. If you hang out with losers you will end up just like them.
 
Actually I say yes to work like this all the time.. Here's the trick:

I give them EXACTLY what they ask for.. A RED ONE camera.

Then later when everyone is excited I ask: Do you want to see what the camera is shooting?
"Uh yeah"
Ok then you will need an EVF
Do you want a mattebox, follow focus, lcd, rods, tripod, etc?

uhhhh wait, we thought you were renting a RED one..

I am, but that's just a body, now, did you want a RED ONE camera body for $500? I mean, you weren't trying to get a camera PACKAGE for $500 were you? That's robbery!

Anyone who does that job should have their Red taken away from them and given to someone who understands the business... :)

You'd be surprised at how many REDusers have given quotes far below even this rate.

The reality is, yes, there are idiots amongst us who would kill their own mother for money or a chance to work.

I prefer the starving artist route.

this is perhaps the funniest thread i've read in a long time.

scary thought: anyone who has purchased the RED and is now whoring themselves and/or the gear. or, those who have purchased this camera thinking it will make them into an actual DoP OR an operator.

This may exactly the feelings of Big Studio Executives and Film-Lover-Dps about us, when we say we target their positions with RED-Digi-Tools.

Why do you call other whoring..? when there were so many DPs made into top slots after working for Free.
How does it matter whether one rent for less OR donate for clinical trials, if ones goal is to become DoP OR Director.
 
See if they said they had a really small budget but a great concept, excellent band and wanted a RED and DP for free to help out they'd probably be better received (and get a better result).

People work for free all the time, especially if they're pitched a good idea by a switched on person. But when someone comes up and says "give me your skills and gear for much much less than what I should pay - and by the way, show me proof you are worth it!" then they won't do well.
