  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim's extended leave...

The regrettable truth is that you make a camera for professionals and professionalism rules the forum, you make a camera for the masses and you get what just transpired.

'ego' is not something that discriminates between the 'professional' and 'non professional' fraternity. Most identify themselves very closesly with it.

Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds. - Albert Einstein

Ha! Can you imagine the chairman of Sony regularly replying to a public forum where people slag of their products/business methods...wouldn't happen in a million years!! Like all things Red it's out of the ordinary that the boss/owner takes the time to post his thoughts here, but it's good to take a break (this forum can take on the appearance of a torch-wielding mob sometimes).

Yes, the boss/owner is away. He cannot be everywhere. The new mod Acehole is doing now his job. Closing the improper threads.

He'll be back...

Me hopes.

I think we can only imagine how hard it is to do something like Jim and Team are doing. We're only perceiving the superficial level of all this and of course - we get to have this miraculous cameras from the future.

Imagine:

- To conceive the whole thing.
- To finance it.
- To find the right crew. To get it together working.
- To actually design and build the RED One [as it now apparently is].
- To keep the whole impossible thing running well, all the time.
- To fight with the dirty tricks of the "big boys" competition.
- To fight prejudice.
- To market the whole thing.
- To handle criticism and still - remain open.
- [a zillion other things, that we don't know].
- [another zillion things that we don't know].

I get exhausted only doing my pitiful student projects, but what about that?!

That's a hell of an effort.

Even without all the BS on the forums and outside, a person would need rest and time off.

I think that here, we all are dedicated filmmaking [and engineering] zombies, but personal life should always come first - it's the real thing.

We all have our Yin and Yang periods in life and creating a RED One can't be a Yin thing, you know?

So, I think that master Jim will be back when he has strenghtened his contact with the Force.

I just want to personally repeat again that:

- I will buy Scarlet, interchangeable lenses or not. I would buy it right f*cken now, if it was available.

- I will also buy the RED One, when the time is right. It's mainly a question of money, not decision. And I think we want to wait for those Misterium X upgrades too :).

- I have no problem with the emergence of Epic, but I strongly believe that the RED One line will continue to be improved and developed. For the middle-class shooters.

And one more thing... what was it?..

Aah, yeah:

- I want Scarlet right fucken NOW, do you hear me?! :sorcerer:

...

Well, I guess that's it.

Sya, Master Jim.

Jim Jannard really deserves a time off.
It is excellent that he stays in direct contact with his customers.
It suppose it has been an amazing ride the recent 28 months - and recharging batteries is a must, even for the most dynamic people.

It has to be difficult to accomplish something that so many people thought was impossible and hand it to people, practically for free, guide them in using it so they can create stunning imagery effortlessly that was never before possible and to top it all off... have to sit through such petty complaining and bickering of what went wrong. I don't blame Jim for needing to take a hiatus. Jim, you're doing everything right. Keep going.

This thread contains as much rampant speculation about Jim and Red as any of the other threads.

Face it folks, you're living in an information vacuum with respect to Jim's life and motivations. You're imparting what you feel onto your mental image of Jim, and thereby sympathizing with yourselves.

If Jim maintained a personal blog on which he could write emo poetry, maybe this speculation would be justified. Thankfully, he doesn't.

Thanks Jim, your leave will help me immensely. Your participation in these forums is remarkable, and adds an element that has made them so compelling. Now I can get more work done, which will have to happen so I can afford the Epic, which (unbelievably) takes Red to an even higher level.

Seriously, ignore the kvetches and keep up the great work. The revolution will be complete when you finish the 5K projector that will appear in every theater in the world. And, when the price point recovers from development costs, in millions of living rooms as well.

I am really disappointed on what happened here the last couple days.

Things are going to change.

Tolerance is going to go down, and hopefully the noise level along with it.

Acehole is the new pitbull moderator, his job is going to do some spring cleaning.

If anyone has any ideas on how to make things better.. i am all ears.

I've said this before, 80% of the noise comes from the sources being anonymous and thinking they can say anything they want. I would be 100% behind switching this board to a named user setting, like dvinfo.net

I think it would clear out a LOT of the junk.

Sad to see this happen. It's very rare to have celebs or CEOs or whatever interacting with the masses online.
