  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim's extended leave...

Well Jim thanks for the time you have put into this forum starting from back in the DVX User days. Your presence and forthrightness helped inspire confidence in RED ONE, leading to a decision on my part to invest in two of your babies, that has already proven to be a profitable decision and for that I thank you.

Taking time off from this forum is probably a good idea, as I certianly don't want you to develop the feeling that we are a bunch of ingrates.

Here's hoping you return soon.

He is a human being and we hurt him. With our greed and malice. With our petty suspicions.

Maybe deep down we are jealous? And somehow have to destroy that which is good because its too much effort for us to rise to the standard and example of someone who acts with principle. Its too much to be reminded by someone whose existence proves that life can and should be lived with passion and dedication. And with generosity. Lets face it who amongst us have that kind of generosity arent we generally most concerned for ourselves and only what we can gain. We are greedy and stingy. And worst we are resentful.

To look at what he does is not so interesting but why he does it. What drives a man to put himself through a grueling hell of making these things happen when he already has enough to stop?

Its not simple ambition to out do himself that would be an ego trip and this is not an ego trip because it isnt about him its about us!

He and his team have focused on satisfying our needs and when they have broken their backs to bring the fire to us that will liberate us and give us the wings to soar to any height we dare to reach for, all we do is hide our fear behind accusation, and blame. Basically anything other than taking responsibility for our own destinies and making something happen with it.

Its not opportunity its what you do with it, but first you must dare. A leap of faith. We got scared. Lost our nerve and instead of looking in the mirror and admitting we have no balls we found ways to point fingers at something else.

He is still climbing with or without us but he is not going to carry us on his back. He will show the way but we have to stand on our own feet and take responsibility for the opportunities presented to us.

To make a sacrifice and be a martyr is one thing but it has to be worth it. He made sacrifices for us and we have demonstrated that we dont deserve his gracious acts of kindness and consideration. He worked hard and delivered the goods and we spit on it and pooh poohed them. He is not a jerk nor a fool of course he isnt going to take that shit from us.

He is doing us a favor. He is giving us a gift.

He gives each one of us the chance to make history if we want to try. But to write a glory story of your own you need reasons to act not excuses to stop.

The fault is not in our stars that we are underlings but in ourselves!

He pulled a Brando.

Why should he come back? He deserves better.

I met Jim yesterday and he could not have been more approachable and over all great guy, just like the rest of the RED team...great to meet all of you.

Unfortunate the forums are blowing up this way but I suppose that comes with a wave of new reservation holders, skeptics and critiques.

It is not about Jim Jannard coming in and saying a few words here and there, it is about Jim Jannard and company gearing up to a truly monumental task with 3 camera systems now on the table, and the development of a whole bunch of accessories and software to boot. All this while having thousands of customers lining up at the door wanting to take everything home today.
Those who coveted the latest Letus Extreme adapter are witnesses to how difficult it is to produce a hot new item when flooded with a zillion orders at the same time. And that experience was one item with not much technological need.
I suggest that all of us that are dreaming about these new wonderful cameras give Mr. Jannard not a little bit of space but a huge amount of it while he tends to this business of Red. Let him work and steady the ship for the very rough weather ahead. He and his people are working on highly technological and expensive equipment that needs to work perfectly for its users because if it doesn’t the results will be disastrous.
What we have to do is support them with our best wishes and for those believers with many prayers because, trust me; the road ahead will be a little rough. But hopefully at the end, everybody will come out a winner.
 
guys.. you all need to take some time off from these blogs.. its only about a camera and not about life........
 
How can anything not be about life that exists in life.
 
I fully understand Jim. The level of some thread is plain ridiculous and insulting.

Maybe a "Hiatus" for Jim is only 72 hours!

Could someone point me to the insulting threads. I have seen critical threads and postings and made a few myself but most are genuine comments from the vastly varying gene pool that makes up this extraordinary forum, without which REDone would not be where it is. So I am not worried Jim is leaving because he can't stand the heat, he probably just needs the biological equivalent of a black balance.

Commercial guys may giggle at the heart felt sentiments of some of the postings on this thread, but in the cynical cycle of everyday consumerism the sense of human touch evoked by the RED team for a craft tool should be cherished.

I agree, it is boring to read me through a lot of unprofessionaly, silly stuff to find the nuggets in here. I propose to start a REDowner blog, where only those can write in who possesses a RED. But open to read for anybody.

Bit narrow minded isnt it ? It assumes pro or *serious* users (whatever that means) own a camera. What about professional cinematographers like myself that use the camera but have no intrest in owning one.

I think Jim finally wants to get cracking on that Space Station he wants to build. Or, maybe he wants to get out into the world and shoot something with the camera he built (with the help of some very talented and brilliant people). I think it worth noting that if Jim wants to step back from the noise, he obviously trusts his very capable team to be his eyes and ears.

So how do us normal folks with real shows to shoot get official RED news? Jim's posts were pretty much all I'd read day to day, because if anything real was announced it came through his posts.

At the very least we need an official "Words from RED" forum for announcements etc.

I'm disappointed to see him go.
